Opinion on Tom Brown Tracker...

We must have been in the same Standard class in Sept. '07. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

This is my first reply and first time participating in this forum. I look forward to hearing more from the crew. I own the Tom Brown tracker and have used it extensively during primitive conditions in the Northwest territories. I love this knife and wanted something that would get the job done. I am just a guy that loves the outdoors and am not trying to be a living commercial. Here is what I can say:
  • It is amazingly durable
  • The high carbon steel is a great choice and the 1095 steel in this knife has received hard use and has not failed me.
  • It splits logs like a dream making batoning a piece of cake.
  • The edge just does not quit. I have dressed deer and wild pig with this knife.
  • Knotching is great. I bet I could cut myself out of a chopper with this knife.
  • Chopping is as good as it gets with out using an ax. What you have to decide is whether you also want to carry an ax. If not then this is the tool for the job
  • Most people doing videos on this knife have not read the instructions and use it completly wrong. I also have no patience for talking video heads that have not used it in the field.
  • Micarta handles are wonderful.
Tops knives are just great and the company stands behind their product. They are serious knives for serious use. When I was in the service they sent me to Afghanistan and was issued a Kabar. I put it aside and carried my Tops Hawk Recon which stood up under very heavy use (Knivestown.com has a review on it). One time I had to "apply" it and I am glad I was on this side of the handle. I just got it back from Tops and they sharpened it for me free of charge putting a factory edge on it. You could shave with this knife (which I actually have done when I ran out of razors. Lol.) and slice your Thanksgiving Turkey with it. Can't say enough about the company. I was going to get an RC5 for the wilderness but Tracker is great. They say "one life one knife". I would have to agree.
