Opinion Poll - The Second Best Heavy-Duty Folder

If you have a copy of 2002 SPORTING KNIVES yearbook, there's an interesting article by James Ayres,"Can a folder replace a fixed blade?".He subjected six quality folders(Large Sebenza,SERE 2000,
Microtech SOCOM,BM 710,Spyderco Chinook and Military)to fairly severe wilderness survival type use,and only the Sebenza and SERE 2000 excelled in these tests of extreme cutting of shelter poles and splitting firewood. The Sebenza came out on top, with the Al Mar SERE in
second place. He left out many other extra-heavy duty knives, such as the Striders, but the results were interesting. The author actually had more positive comments about the SERE than any other knife, possibly because it performed the best out of all the more moderately priced knives.I agree-for the money, the SERE 2000 is hard to beat.
