Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

Opinion

I have one and bought it originally as an inexpensive thrower. Due to it's (relatively) short overall length, it is not a great thrower. Still passable, but not as good as my Ft. Turner Iroquois or CCF spike hawk.

It is, in my opinion, a very effective tactical/emergency hawk though. Very quick, light and well-balanced with a great cutting edge and absolutely wicked spike that penetrates with scary effectiveness. This would be my choice (and often is) to ride along in my Jeep.

I don't know anything about the combat hawk, but I just ordered one of their Thunder Bay axes

from smkw.com.

Kinda anxious to see how it works out. I've got a Fehrman Knives Nessmuk with another one on the way. But I figure a $60 hatchet would ride under the truck seat better than a $260 one would...

I'll post some pics and review when I get it....

I like the look, feel, and balance of this hawk. It feels great in the hand, and is slim and somewhat on the smallish side for a hawk. -The price isn't bad, and it comes in two options: plain thrower, or for a little more money you can get one with handles and a sheath.

As a thrower it is "decent" as oposed to excellent. Though on the pluss side the spike sticks very well even in hard material, and since it is one solid piece of steel you never have to worry about breaking the handle. Which is a big  to me. :)

As a wood chopper I would again say it is only "decent" as in it will chop (I've used it to chop firewood a few times when out camping) but it's not realy ideal for processing large amounts of wood.

As a possible weapon I think it would work quite well for its relatively small size.... but I've never had the oportunity to try that out , yet. ;)

I went ahead and sharpened the spike and convexed the cutting edge on mine... as well as a quick handle made of leather, cord and grip tape.

...Cuts like a razor now, and holds its edge quite well.

Over all I realy like mine. Mostly just as a fun and occasionally usefull toy. :)

BryFry, I've done the same to mine as well as cord wrapping the haft above the handle. Will get a few pics of it up later today.

Nice job on yours!

I don't have one, but I handled a few at the local knife shop. The one with the wood handles, not the thrower. I like it, and plan on getting it as my next tactical hawk.
