Opinions for a Piglet

Hey all. Piglet here, been operating in the background, keeping low, trying take it all in. Snagged a few blades here and there from the weekly feedings. Even managed to score from the Janitor's Closet.

Lately, I've been looking at some blades in the 9 inch range. Really want to try it as a "do all" option. The NMFSH has caught my eye, but I can't find any reviews on it what so ever. Maybe my Google-fu is weak.

This is where I ask you fine swine, and those long in tusk for honest opinions to guide me toward my bacon nirvana. Any other blades suit this crazy idea?

Thanks!

Ash 2 looks like a winner. But. The NMSFNO is the clear winner there IMHO. Grab one and don't look back.

The NMFSH is a great blade, so is the NMSFNO (although it is not 9 inches) 8 inches I believe, the New Ash 2 is another new option-or you could just jump up to the 10 inch range and get you a CGFBM which is also in my opinion along with the NMSFNO one of the Best Busse Blades ever made-Good Luck

Thats a great question, I think in that past there have been threads about if you could only have one 8-9"-ish Busse, what would it be?

Basic 8
NMSFNO
TGLB
SAR 8
SH-E
The new MOFO?
NMFSH
ASH-2

Seems like most would agree the NMSFNO is a great do-it-all

Good luck!

I don't have one but from your description the ASH-2 seams like it's right on the money.

I just received one-I like, but it will never replace my NMSFNO-just my opinion

I would suggest getting in touch with the shop and seeing if the any of the Steel hearts (ASH-2 or ergo) are available because of cancelations. Alternatively, just wait a bit, I'm sure a design you'll love will pop up soon.

Does It All and can chop: NMSFNO (ranges around .25-.27" thick)

CHOPS and can do it all: NMFSH (ranges around .31-.32" thick)

I am strongly in favor of satin/zero convex in both cases, but YMMV

ASH2 or BWM (BushWacker Mistress). Both of these have straight geometry which I prefer. The SFNO/NMSFNO's do also but I didn't take to the SF handle quite as much as the ASH and BWM handle design.

If you want a light downward bend in the handle the Ergo/Fusion handles are the better bet. "Fusion" comes from a blend of straight/bent handle geometry.

The new Battle Grade Mofo release is a good example of an "Ergo" bend. It might add even more angle. The Fusion handle adds a little bend at the second rivet instead so you feel it when you choke back on the handle.

It can help a piglet to post an approximate location of where the live/play/work. Sometimes if someone can see you are close, a HOG will offer to meet you and let you get your hands in some INFI.

your in good hands! I personally prefer the FSH over the NMSFNO.. all these are AWESOME choices... good luck, post pics :)

Sorry for hogging the thread for a bit but I will sign on to Dr. Lecter's post about the line between the NMFSH and NMSFNO also. I haven't used a NMFSH but had several FSH's and FBM's, including fatties, and a weighty blade on the Fusion handle is an AMAZING chopping tool. I live in temperate rainforest in the Central Cascades (7 feet of rain/year) and have had no trouble getting fires lit in the soggy forests with the lighter, thinner knives so I ended up ordering two ASH2's because it looks like the grail knife for my use. I think I get less hand fatigue with lighter knives too.

I'm looking for similar info and would like to meet a HOG who would be so kind. I'm in central Texas, Austin area. Send me an email. I'll bring scotch!
