Opinions for Full sized black Ka-Bar

Some comparison pics, to help convince you that you need both - er, I mean, you know, make it easier for you to decide which one you need most.

My [Camillus-made] BK-7 is modified; a factory new Kabar BK-7 will look a lot better than my old Franken-Becker.

Mods: stripped blade finish; removed the thumb ramp; cut slots in scales; replaced the hex cap screws with slotted screws so I can take the scales off with my SAK (I only keep matches in the scales); and the sheath sleeve kept coming out, so I screwed it in at the bottom.

Out of the two choices, I would go with the BK 7 for an all around camp/utility knife.

As to the self defense aspect, I would say that has 99.9% to do with the person and his/her attitude and training and 0.1% to do with the kind of knife.

Just cut a big stick with your nice new camp knife and use the stick for self defense. ;)

There is also an astronomical range of affordable machetes out there, some of which are pretty heavy duty such as the Condor Parang or Golok....................
