Opinions needed ... Randall or Winkler

I've decided to splurge on a higher end knife and have narrowed my choices to the Winkler II S.A.R, Randall Combat Companion, or Randall Model 15 Airman. It will be a user not a safe queen, and will be called upon for basic outdoor tasks (camping, hiking, etc.). I like the utility of the Winkler, while I am drawn to the classic profiles of the two Randalls. Price range is close on all three ... $500-600. I'd be most obliged to anyone with experience to share. These are the three I have targeted after extensive research, so I'm not looking for any alternate maker considerations ... just Winkler vs. Randall. Thank you in advance.

This is my 2 cents worth... If you are going to spend that much money, I would go with the Randall. It is a well known name that will always have value and will always have its own special class. The Winkler looks a bit more generic to me. I realize that there are much less expensive knives that have the styling of the Randall, but they don't have the name.

Really you should pick the one that will make you the most happy, the one that you will like for the longest length of time.

Honestly, I would spend my money on a custom.

Randall's are nice. They do hold value.

But in that price range, I find a custom maker, and get a even more bang for my dollar, and have a one of a kind.

Going against the grain here, but I would definitely go with the winkler. I don't have anything negative to say about Randals, but I know Daniel and karen, and they are very committed to the quality and especially the high performance design of all the knives they make.
They use the best materials and don't take any short cuts. They are also extremely good with customer service if you ever need it.

I would go with the Winkler. Daniel is a great person and he is very committed to the performance of his knives. There's a reason the spec ops guys like them.
Good luck with your decision.

Steve

Thank you all for the input. Dang this is a tough call ... The best solution would be to save up and get both, but it's always the "too many toys to buy, too little money to spend" conundrum.

If you are going to use the knife, i would probably lean toward the Winkler 2 line.

Daniel Winkler, for all the reasons already posted about him in this thread.

My vote goes to mr. Winkler as well. I got one of his Winkler II belt knives and love the simple but very functional design and the quality is top notch.

you really can't go wrong either way.

Both are nice knives but for a user the Winkler would be my choice there's a reason the military guy's use him

WINKLER.

The older Randal knives were great! Unfortunately I have seen a few new ones where the quality doesn't seem to be there.

I own pieces from both and think either is a great choice for a user.

My honest 2 cents: Fit/finish on Randall is much better than any of the Winker II knives, if that's a consideration for you.

actually, Randall knives have a very strong military pedigree as well...
