opinions on 1080 for camp knife

I'm comfortable working with 1084 (btw...is there much of a diff. between 1080 and 1084 performance-wise?) so I'd like to make my next knife... a 12" OAL camp/bowie hybrid... from some 1080 that I have. The guy I'm making it for will have hard use for it. But is 1080 a good choice? Or does it just come down to my HT?

The last two numbers are not acurate at all its just close. depends on where you get it but the carbon content varies by like +/-.05%

1080 would be an excellant choice, ESPECIALLY if you do your own heat treat
