I have been in a discussion over a trade plus funds to a user on this forum. He is a registered user that has a positive feedback of 100%, but has only been rated on 7 transactions. He is requesting my knife and funds up front first, as he does not deal with PayPal. He is asking that I send my package with MO first, and upon receipt, he will send out the trade knife. I am always weary of things like this, but wanted to get feedback from you guys/girls. I don't have a rating, I understand, but on here and other forums, when trading, I have always sent the box at approx the same time providing tracking information...

Hm that seems a bit unusual of a request but at least he has 7 transactions and + feedback, that would be me at ease enough to go ahead and send first.

You situation has happened to me before because of my minimal feed back. I end up sending my stuff first and upon arrival, he would follow through on his end. Since his rating is 100% with 7 feedbacks, you're just going to have to trust him and send yours first.

I would do the same if a member with zero feedback wanted to do a trade.

Being a newbie myself not too long ago, it appears that someone with -0- feedback score would typically ship first. It's the internet, it's a crapshoot. I have had the good fortune of dealing with really good people ( Traders ) 98% of the time. Anyone of those trades could have gone bad, it's the internet. You can email some of his previous traders and solicite feedback from the horses mouth so to speak. But hey, at the end of the day .... all you really have to do is trust your instincts. If it walks like a duck. Good luck!! John

Agreed. I ask those with 0 or 1 feedback to send first. If they refuse, I have to assume the worst until they build some reputation.

It really depends on the person. If I were you, I would send the money order first and have him send the package then send yours out when he does. Make sure you both agree on it first, of course. So if you do get burnt, you won't loose everything.

My first trade or two on Bladeforums I sent first, Trades went fine. I've been fortunate to deal with the good people here.

Hey MedicX,
I understand your frustration! I went through a similar situation but once you build positive feedback things will go smooth. Then 1 day you will be on the other side with some one with no feed back. I used to be a lot more trusting but was screwed pretty badly,so am a lot more cautious with someone with no feed back. I must admit, I don't like the money order also being sent. At least with paypal you are covered if the guy tries to screw you. But on the positive side, I feel that most traders/sellers on BF take their reputation pretty serious.I must say I have always had good experiences with people with positive feed back on here. Good luck.

p.s I think you posted in the wrong section. Should be in the Good, the bad, the ugly section

At all, thank you very much. I appreciate the feedback more than you know. At Jaydev, sorry, didn't think about that. Just figured this would be the place to get the answer I needed, and I did.

Personally, I am not comfortable sending anything of any real value to someone with 0 feedback score.
Given my low feedback score and post count, relative to how long I've been around, I still offer to send first to well-established members with respectable feedback score or have 'paid their dues' around here.
Point is, it is all too easy to create an account, make a few posts, then mozy on into this subforum and really wreck someone's day.

Trust is earned. It sounds like the person on the other end of your trade has earned seven 'units' worth of trust.
If you are still concerned, do some investigating. Using the forum's advanced search, or Google with "site:bladeforums.com HISUSERNAME" you can see a good deal of just what he does around here. If you feel something does not pass the 'smell test' then I would reconsider the transaction.

Maybe exchanging a phone call also will help build up the gut feeling of trust. Again, won't necessarily stop anything, but should anything go south you can at least make the phone go ring and ask what's up. With email, it's just too easy to ignore or have the person perhaps not check it as often or have a significant time zone difference.

If someone would not give out their phone number, that would be a flag.

After reading this, and writing back and forth with the other party, I decided to go ahead with the deal. He even told me that once he gets confirmation that my stuff was en route, that he would go ahead and send his due to him being busy this weekend. I sent a pic of my money order and knife with the tracking receipt. He confirmed and said he will ship ot out today. Again, thanks to all, and sorry once again for posting in the wrong area.

One good thing with a "Postal Money Order", if someone commit's fraud, you can get the Postmaster General to investigate and prosecute someone who commit's fraud through the mail. They have 4000 + employee's, 1,200 investigator's, another 1,000 armed and uniformed officer's, along with forensic capabilities. I would not want them at my door. Paypal does not have these abilities, and do not alway's honor their protection policies and have read many horror stories about them. When I buy Money Order's, it's always from USPS.

Medic, glad this seems to be working out OK for you. If the request bothers you too much, back out now before anything gets mailed. I was fairly new here and had someone ask me for a trade of something I had posted pics of. After we agreed on the trade itself he asked me to mail first. I told him to forget it, the trade was off. I haven't seen him post here since, so I'm glad I listened to a case of the willies.
