Recently, I was emailed at Knifeforums.com that I was one of the winners in a contest there and I won a Bark River knife--I won't know which kind until it is mailed to me. I've never had the pleasure of using one or owning one, though most of what I've read about them is praiseworthy, and the pics look pretty cool. Anyway, if anyone here has had any experiences with owning/using one, I'd appreciate any additional info about them.

Thanks!:)

I am a winner too in that contest. I just recently traded for one, and I LOVE it!! I love Bark River Knives, they have some amazing designs!! I think you will be extremely happy with your Barkie!!

Bark River knives are one of the best performance values on the market today. They have a pattern for anyone's style or need, and the handle options are endless. The full convex grind on most of their models cuts very well.

they stink you should send it to me yeah baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
No really GREAT knives, but you can still send it to me!

top notch! I have many and they are all good:thumbup:

*without question*

I think the Bark Rivers are too sharp for the average knife user. You could really hurt yourself if not careful the way you handle it. My "Huntsman" model is just the perfect size for carrying while in the woods. It has a blade guard for good reason. I'm not a fan of stitches and one slip with these puppies and hopefully you will make it to the ER before you bleed out. I'm not joking about this. You have to be careful with this puppy!

I'm another winner of the Knifeforums Bark River Knife & Tool contest. I'm having trouble waiting to try out my first BRK&T.

My Bark River was the first knife with a convex edge I'd ever had. I haven't cut myself with it, but the edge kind of fooled me at first. It just didn't seem like it was as sharp as it really was until I used it. I could see some non-knife guy testing it out on his thumb and finding out the hard way...

I see your point. I use guardless knives all the time but, you must be careful with them. Definately no stabbing type cutting motions with them. I just take my time and am careful with guardless knives. So far no problems.

I own the Highland Special. Great little skinning and all around camp knife. What was mentioned before about "too sharp the the average person" is very true. By far the sharpest knife I have used out of the box. Love the convex grind, and BRKT's fit and finish IMHO is top notch. Congrats ya lucky !$@#$:D

I own a first production run of the Fieldsman, and recently traded for a Slither!! And I am waiting on the one I won! WAHOOOO!

I've got one of the new Bark River "Teddys" and love the full guard on the handle. Green micarta- yeah baby! Honestly, you can't go wrong with a Bark River knife. They are built to high quality standards and are as sharp as the dickens.:)

I won a Southern Skinner from the previous draw (the 40 knife draw last September). I already owned a Northstar. Outstanding knives.

DGG gives good advice. The convex grind is wicked and the knives cut far better than their sharpness suggests.

I've got 2 bark rivers from JDee in Oz (who is a truly bad man and society is lucky that he doesn't peddle drugs:D )

They are exeptionally high quality for the price and the convex grind, once you learn the mouspad trick to sharpen it, is unbeatable for bushcraft.

My gameskeeper and wolf river both have the feel of heirlooms.

Huh... I'm going to take a little different tack on this one and state that, in my opinion, fit and finish, from what I've seen, is a little sub-par (scales that don't match up, uneven shoulders on the knives, glue around the joints, etc) compared to what I've seen from other production knife companies. That said, I have yet to see anything that would keep me from buying one of their knives. I really like the BRKT line, their knives that I own are awesome, and I look forward to buying more, but I think if fit and finish are your #1 priority you'd be better off looking at something from Benchmade or Spyderco, for example.

The 3 that I currently own, the F & F are perfect. I can not find a thing wrong with them!

Been watching this thread, and that's almost exactly the opposite of my experiences with BRKT. All of them I've had and bought for gifts have been nicely finished..... it's the grinds, OOTB sharpness and edge holding that IMO aren't anything out of the ordinary. But I still think they're good values.
