opinions on CRKT

CRKT has some cool designs from some top notch makers but some suffer from poor steel and poor locks, imho some of the fixed blades are pretty good once ya get past there sorry excuses for sheaths, in fact a CRKT companion in custom kydex is a lotta knife for less than $50, and if ya are just using the thing for SD the poor steel doesnt matter as much, or at all really.

they are a entry level knife and are 'ok' but dont compare well at all to spyderco or BM, but they are quite a bit cheaper, usually anyway.

some of them have decent steel, like the carbon fibre or Ti M16's, they are imho the very best of the lot & have the best F&F of any CRKT i have seen, but then they run about what a spyderco or BM would,

but they are certainly 'ok' ..........

I tend to recommend them to folks that abuse the hell out of their knives--the soft steel won't break when used to turn a screw. An advantage to some, but terrible for us!

thank you for every ones opinions! i was kinda thinking id use it for a work knife. i like the one handed opening ability. i do construction so its going to get dirty and beat up. that is kinda why i didnt want to too spend alot on a knife but at the same time i dont know if i want to spend 80 bucks either. shame their not made in the US. i really like the design of that knife also.

well thank you again. ill think about it.

i carried a kershaw storm 2 for many months on a tough construction job. this is a good worker knife. its very strong, easy to clean, made in usa, and can be used with gloves on.

i think their best knives were made about 5 0r 7 years ago, & blade steel has gotten cheaper & cheaper,+ moving to china didnt help much either.they should have made more models similar in quality to the s-2,or the voodoo, but it would probably cost too much....

I have carried the Kasper and a few of the M16 models. People who call the CRKT knives, even the cheaper ones, 'crap' are very unrealistic about what a knife is for. Sure, they won't hold up worth a damn if you are cutting through 3" braided steel cable or something, but they are more than sufficient for what the average person will do in the course of knife ownership. I carry an M16 daily for work and it covers pretty much every task I would us ea knife for. That is, cutting things. It holds a good edge and is incredibly quick to touch up on a stone.

I carried an M16 model throughout my military career. I used every day and used it hard. It was used to cut metal and plastic seals off of trailers so we could search them. I also used it on the range to cut up target backers and cut countless amounts of 550 cord with it. The knife worked great with gloves on and I NEVER had a lock failure. I used the serrated edge for most of the heavy duty cutting.

The liner lock looks wimpy, but I've never had an issue with it. I've got nothing bad to say about CRKT at all. I appreciate them working with many different makers to supply us with custom designs that we can afford. I know I'll never buy a Graham folding razel, but I will be able to buy a CRKT folding Razel. Will it be the same qualiity? No, but it's a fraction of the price.

"Crap" IMO, in agreement with dougo, is a very unrealistic statement.

I won't buy a knife made in China. It's a shame that CRKT is just an office located in the US and everything else is Chinese.
