I am thinking of picking up an Emerson Commander and his neck knife, the La Griffe. These would be the production models and not the custom. I am looking for opinons on both these blades and some places to buy them online.

Thanks for the help.

Hi there!

I got a Commander that i bought in -98, my all the time carry, not while swimming and i once when weighttraining managed to carry my BM 975 for one hour! i did miss my Commander the whole time though...

What i'm trying to say it that i love it! it fits perfectly in my hand and cuts like mad.
I've got one more on order and 2 Ravens and one CQC-7(production)and the La Griffe.

The only problems iäve heard is concerning quality control, some reports that people have got knives that shouldn't have left the factory.

Try to call a dealer to have him/her check on out so you get a nice one.

well I would have an opinion on them if they were not on back order from where I had ordered them (one raven, one emerson dagger) they have been on back order since november

I've heard the La Griffe is one of the best neck knives made, but since I don't own one I really can't atest to that. I do own a Commander and CQC-7 though. Both are very good knives, I've had no quality issues but I have heard a lot about them. The one thing all Emerson folders seem to suffer from is the pivot screw tends to back off all on it's own. This can be remidied with either some teflon tape or Loc-Tite. The bottom line is that they're good knives, but check out the ACTUAL knife you want. If that's not possible deal with a reputable dealer and have him check it out for you. Hope this helps.

There are only two types of people; those who understand this, and those who think they do.

I love my Commanders. They are rugged, fit may large hands, nice blade shape and the Wave feature is cool

The La Griffe, for me is too small, don't like the hole/handle. I prefer a compact but FULL SIZE neck knife. I may be the only one in this thread with a negative comment about the La Griffe but, you asked!

I have to recommend Bayou Lafourche Knife Works for the Emerson Commander since mine came from there as a Christmas present. They are www.knifeworks.com

It's a special knife and my current favorite folder for daily carry.

Can't say about the La Griffe, since I don't have one.

There are many other really great dealers in the BladeForums links. Also, check the Good, Bad and Ugly forum and do a search to check out comments on particular dealers.
