I was curious if anyone has owned a knife that is fully coated in dlc or some other type of black coating. I have seen a few around and they look fantastic when brand new. However, I've always been skeptical. After little use are the handle scales going to look pretty scratched up? I haven't ever seen a user so I have no idea what one would look like after a while of use.

Anyone out there have any they could comment on? Thanks!

Yes it will get scratched up. Use your knife and any coating or anodizing will eventually start to wear. Even heavy petting can cause some wear.

But not all coating are created equal. Some are no better than spray paint, and others are extremely tough. I think the knives look cool as the coating wears off myself. (Or in, as I like to think of it.) There is nothing wrong with good honest wear.

However, if you want a knife that does not show scratches you have 2 options. 1: Never use the knife ever or 2: Stone washing. I think stone washing is very attractive, but it also hides scratches about the best out of anything I have seen.
