Opinions on grinder on moveable work station

I recently purchased my first real grinder and I've been rearranging my garage workshop, so I was considering mounting my grinder on some sort of moveable cart or work station that I could wheel out of the garage if I needed to. Is this a good idea? Are there any compromises in stability or any negative affects to grinding on some sort of cart? I would appreciate any input, thanks!

It's a great idea, I wish I would have made mine mobile. Be sure that your cart is very very sturdy. Those grinders are heavy as is and I push into mjne when I'm hogging steel

Rolling benches are great shop creativity ideas. If doing this, and your inside setup allows it, place the grinder on the end of the bench so you are pushing down the long axis. This is far more stable. A little ingenuity cold even come up with a grinder base that swivels to allow turning from inside use position to outside use.

Several methods work.
The simplest one is to use locking wheels. The larger and heavier duty wheels you use, the better.

Another trick is to use rollers, and to cut two 4X4s about 6" longer than the bench width. Once rolled to where you want it, lift each end and slide one under the bench to completely raise the wheels off the ground when the bench is in use.

Another is to use a mobile tool base. They are more expensive, and for a size like 3'X8' may be downright costly.

Other inventive methods will all do the trick as long as at least the end with the grinder is sitting in firm contact with the driveway/ground when in use.

mine works great

although it's a bit heavier with the 2 disc grinders on it
I also just added a shelf halfway down the legs for storage.

The adage, "If the shoe fits, wear it" come to mind. As long as its done in a manner that you aren't allowing more vibration in the machine. go for it.

Thanks guys, great tips! I think I may try it. I'll shoot for a heavy, overbuilt (for my peace of mind) cart with heavy-duty locking wheels.

What I recommend is building a 2X4 and 2X6 bench and putting 4" industrial wheels on it. Make it 3' wide and 6-8' long. There should be two swivel wheels and two fixed. Put the grinder on the fixed end. The swivel wheels should have brakes/locks, and it is also good to have brakes on the fixed wheels.

Thanks Stacy. I already have 2 large benches, so may modify one or build something smaller just for the grinder. I'll have to play with my shop layout and see what works.
