Opinions on Kershaw skyline.

The Skyline was probably one of my first, "expensive" knives. They're a great EDC carry and are backed by a solid warranty. The materials are decent for the price and they're made in Oregon, USA. They come in a lot of different flavors so you can find one to suit your unique tastes. Some years ago I set out to own every Skyline made and I'm kinda, sorta there.

That being said, there's a lot being offered in the ~$50 price range for knives. As already mentioned, the Steel Will knives are great. There are also some really compelling options from CIVIVI, made by WE knives. Competition is stiff in that price range, so the Skyline has gotten a little long in the tooth.

I'd love to see Kershaw update the Skyline with better flipping action due to a real detent and better washer system. Maybe a FFG blade.

Of course, if you're asking about a knife to buy, you may as well buy it. And prepare to buy more. And more.

Good luck until the thread you start about the next knife you're looking to buy!

I've got a couple, one in black wash 14C28N and one in S30V, and I like them a lot. However I replaced the clips with deep-pocket titanium clips, and the plastic backspacer with titanium spacers. Now they ride deep and they are open-back for easy cleaning. Great edc knives that I carry often.

There are two versions of the cutjack. The more expensive one has m390 steel. You want to look for the d2 cutjack model.
Thanks for the info. @Lapedog,
They look nice, never had one in hand, like to maybe see it with a deep carry clip...(?)

You're Killin me here man, so many choices. Starting to look like i need more than one. Wait a minute,,,is this how it starts?
Lol :D...
One way it starts, for sure !!
-Good luck on your knife quest.

Looks like a great value. I have a lower end Kershaw too, I think I paid $55 or so, and it is made in China, with a Chinese steel. That one, US-made with a Sandvik steel seems like the better value.

With any of these flippers, just adjust the pivot screw to your liking. I like it right in the middle. It still flips out easily and the blade is not too far off center when closed.

I keep looking, but there just isn't a better value in a flipper in this price range than Kershaw offers. Quality is good, price is good, design is good. The ones I find that I could really replace my humble Kershaw with are triple the price.

Flippers open faster than stud or hole knives; only thing faster is auto, which usually cost more.

Go for it.

Edit: I just looked up the Kershaw model I've got; it's the Chill. A bit slimmer than the one you're looking at, and Chinese instead of American. $17 or something ridiculous, too. I'm sure the steel's junk, but I haven't used it hard either.

Another option: how about the CRKT Homefront? They're down around $50, have a great flipper action and are field strippable? But not handsome, IMO...

I think they are a great knife. I've owned a couple of the Sandvik steel knives and the damascus folders and currently use a fixed blade that was special run through Blade HQ in S30v that is just a great little edc. keepem sharp
