Hi peeps!

I really love Spyderco knives, and I'm a bit of a user/collector. I prefer to buy only knives I'd actually CARRY, and not ones just for show or o on.

I've recently become VERY appreciatve of Spyderco knives, and own several (the Temperance is a truely AWESOME fixed balde knife!!!. And as much as I love my Endura/Delica, I sometimes feel I wish the knife was larger/heavier, to give me more of a sense of "presence."

Know what I mean?

Anywho- Have been looking into the Military, especially for the CMP-SV30 steel. Some research has turned up concerns about faulty lock mechanisms.

How do you like the Military overall?
Were there lock problems?
Has Spyderco addressed them for the latest verion of the knife?
Is it rigid and stable?

I'd really like opinions...
Thanx

The Military is a classic. I have never heard of lock problem on it during my time here on the forums, and I check in at least once every day. Any lock problems there might have been in the past must have been fixed than. I continually here praise of this knife though. People say it is very solid, though lightweight at the same time. I doubt you could go wrong with a classic such as this. I don't own one, but this is what I have read.

I've been carrying a plain edge Military for about 2 months now. Its my 6th Spyderco! Although I love my Endura, Police, Civilian, etc. the Military is the one I find myself reaching for every morning. I have used it for a varity of tasks, and so far there have been no problems with the lock. The edge is still hair popping sharp just as it was the day it arrived.

I have 3 Militaries.I hated liner locks until I got the Military.I would trust its lock without question.IMO it is the best linerlock and the best knife on the market.

I have carried/used my Spyder Military for over 2 yrs.now with no probs.Top of the line,IMHO.

The Military model is an excellent folder...UNLESS you happen to be a "lefty".:(.

I had one for a short time, but as a "lefty", whenever I held it tightly, the liner-lock would tend to move enough for the blade to slightly release. I just couldn't trust it enough not to close on my fingers, so my Mili turned into a SS SE Police model.

My Spyderco Military is my chosen EDC and its one great knife. Very lightweight and easy to open. The edge from the factory is the sharpest of all the knives I've ever owned. Combined with the flat grind of the S30V steel blade it is the best cutter/slicer in my collection. I also like the G-10 handle on this knife. Its very substantial and formed at a nice angle. It makes the handle on the Military the surest handle of all the folders I've ever held. It definately inspires confidence. As far as the linerlock is concerned I did extensive searches on this and other forums before buying and I have yet to encounter a negative comment on the linerlocks on the Military (and the much lamented Starmate which has a similar linerlock). Of course there will always be those people who will never like linerlocks.

IMO the Military is Spyderco's best folder for hard everyday use and carry. Can't recommend it more highly.

Hi Ultrasteele. There has been a great deal of refinment done on the Military over the past 7 years or so. It's the one I most often carry.

Hi Scottang1. Welcome to the Spyderco forum.

I bought two many years ago in 440V. I still have the plain edge one in storage and the serrated one is the one that I have used for many years. It has cut literraly everything from branches to meat to steel cable, boxes. I have stabbed it into trees. It did eventually loose it's sharp edge, but it took forever to do. I have the old 203 sharpmaker with the diamond sleeves which made short work of the blade and it was almost razor sharp again. I have beat the snot out of that knife and it has paid itself off many times over. I finally just gave it to a friend that was going to very unfriendly territory and told him that I did not care what happened to it as long as it served him well.

It served me well and is still going strong. By far my favorite knife and am glad I have the other, which I have not started to use yet.

Hell, I have yet to use my "1 of 300" Bladeforums 440V Native. Sal, when did we do that, I don't even remember.

can't say enough about the Mili'.

bought one, used the heck out of it, got dumb and traded it, agonized for a year, then bought another one. carried it almost EDC since...

I own a Sebenza, but choose to carry my Military instead. If you ask me, it's the best designed folder on the market today.

I've abused mine beyond reason, and the lock has never failed.

I can't say much about the S30V version....yet;), but I had three Millies in CPM440V(until I sold my PE to a friend). Otherwise, my other two Millies see alot of pocket time--CE for non-work EDC and full SE for work EDC. All three have been used hard, sometimes just short of abuse, without any lock failure problems at all.

IMHO, the Millie just CANNOT be beat as an EveryDayCarry.

I've carried my Military (CPM-440V Version) for 2 or 3 years straight. It is the only knife that is consistantly in my EDC.

The Military is probably my all time favorite knife. It really excells at everything I expect a quality pocket knife to do. The knife is a great cutter and will hold an edge for a long time. The lockup is very secure, I don't see this liner lock ever failing. The slightly oversized handle fits my hand perfectly and is extremely comfortable while still being nice and "grippy". The Military is extremely light, you will not even notice it in your pocket. CPM-440V is a very good steel however, if you let it get dull, you will need to use a diamond stone to bring the edge back. The solution is to simply not let the edge get very dull in the first place.

I like the Military so much that I plan to buy one of the PE S30V versions in the future.

I highly recomend that you purchase a Military and try it out for yourself.

Got my Spyderco Miltary today...

Awesome!!!

Its very sturdy and VERY ergonomic... I think I'm going to love it! Its every bit the "step up" from an Endura that I needed. I'll be sure to let you all know what I think.

I have a really crappy digital cam- I'll take some real photos and post soon.

Cheers! I'm off to play with my new toy!!!

The military is a nice blade, it just wasn't exactly my type of knife.
I prefer the discontinued Starmate.
I miss that little guy, it's still either at repair or somewhere in the postal system coming back to me.
