I'm thinking about picking up a left-handed SNG tanto, but I'd like to hear folks' opinions on the company before I drop $475 on a knife.

So: what do you think of Strider? Good company? Good products?

I am a strider knife fan..big time. Heaps of people here are also, heaps arent.

Which is why I'd rather know what kind of company it's going to. ;)

Thanks for the input, I think I might take my cash elsewhere.

If your lookin for lots of info on Strider (good and bad), it would be worth the 25.00 to upgrade your membership so you can use the search.
There's enough stuff on Strider to keep you busy reading for a long time...:D A lot of it is not good
The short on it seems to be they make a good product... Whether they are worth the price is up to the individual.

I remember seeing one thread that cast some pretty harsh aspersions on Mick Strider's character...that's enough to make me wary.

Don't go on the opinion of a few. I have had more than 100 fixed blades go through my fingers in the last twelve months (some costing up to $1k from the biggest names) and my favourite knife to date is my Strider GS with gunner grips. You should see if you can get one to look at in person and see if you like it. You should also get a Busse to see in person. Striders and Busse knives are pretty much the only knives that interest me now except for the odd thing that catches my attention.

I dont think that a strider would be my first choice for a fixed blade.

I havent seen mick around recently...

I agree, don't go by the opinion of others. But there are facts out there, read them and make your own decision on who you wish to buy from.

this is true for sure lol, most of its got to do with the ethics of the owners though, very few will argue that they arent a very good knife.

just depends on if the owners ethics matter to ya, if ya believe the accusations or not, and how bad ya need a heavy duty folder.

the knives themselves are top notch, too bad about all the other BS imho.

probably wouldnt be my 1st choice in a FB either but the guy was asking about an SnG, a folder, they would be one of my top 3 choices for a folder FWIW. a SnG is a great edc knife imho.

I don't know about u guys, IMHO even though some of strider's characters have questionable reputations, Strider still makes great knives. I'm not a big fan of strider, only have 2 of their knives. An SNG that I picked up from the bladeforums' exchange section, and a brand new AR that I got from an online shop.

The SNG was far from new when I got iy. The cutting edge was chipped. With patience and enough time, I was able to remove the chip. The SNG is a great EDC knife for me. Not too large, not too thick, but it has solid lock up. The blade is S30V. A great knife and comparable with small sebenza (NOT in term of fit and finish, but toughness-wise)

Edited to add :

Good company ? I don't know, since I don't know them too well.
Good characters ? Perhaps people will say that they have questionable integrity.
Good knives ? I think so. I've been using my SNG and AR, so far I find no reasons to claim that they make bad products.
Overpriced ? Yes. But I was told that beauty (and in this case; value) lies in hand of the beholder.

Their folders are at the top of any folder designs. Extremely versatile, visually appealing and robust. In my my opinion they are the top dog when it comes to folders.

Contrary to belief of some, I find their fixed blades very well designed. They work especially great in situations and environment where you are forced to wear protective gloves. Their handle designs provide a durable and very grippy hold with gloves when many conventional handles fail.

The prices are high for sure but the materials and designs are the tops and there is a lot of hand finishing involved in making them and they do have an excellent warranty. If you're leo or mil contact them directly. All in all, I'd say go for it.

As a knife collector I think everyone should own a strider (folder) just to see for yourself. Carry it, use it see what YOU think.

Strider does a good job at the price point I have an RCC FL and love it, the warranty is very good as well.

Being a lefty myself I also really like Chris Reeves Lefty Sebenza, a more refined knife than Strider IMHO.

But in all reality for the price those are two excellent knives.

I liked the Strider knives I had, but they did get sold and traded off. I had two SNGs, they both were great knives. Very tough, very light, and felt thin in the pocket.

Yes the blades were off centered when closed. Yes they took a month or so to break in. They did have to thick of an edge for me. I fixed it with a reprofile. They do not feel like a $400 knife. IMHO

I didn't really care for the stripes on the blade, but it didn't stop me from carrying it. The SNG would make a great EDC. I'm just not so sure if they are $400 knives. I would rather spend my money on another knife. Not because of ALL the drama with the Strider name. This is based solely on the knives I had.

If you can land a good deal for a used one, I would go for it. I just would not pay full MSRP.

YMMV....................

Strider folders are heavy-duty knives. You will not be disappointed. I've not handled their FB's.
