Opinions on Strider knives?

If i hear one more person say this or that about mick i might :barf:. You are not gona date the guy or cuddle by the fire with him. Bottom line is their knives are bad ass, the fit and finish is tops. Ive had tons of knives before my sng and now an sng sits in my pocket and out of all the knives ive had, this SnG might just be my all time favorite. Sorry if i was a little harsh i just dont see how if the guy was in special ops or not factors in.

From what I've read, the worst thing he's done is embellish a bit on his past as a marketing strategy. So he has a felony, I know lots of decent guys who've done time. Personally I think he's a bit obnoxiuos and choose not to buy into the hype but this has no bearing on the fact that his tools are reportedly well-made (I don't own one) and he stands behind them 100%.

Bottom line- Any of us start diggin we'll find dirt on every CEO of every company (except Sal Glesser, he's beyond reproach). Enjoy the tool and don't worry about disecting the company that makes it. But also, buy it because of the quality of the product, not the bulls#!* that the company spews out to impress you

They seem to sell all they can make. Even the high dollar customs fly off the shelf. The folders are comparable to none. So

My guess is that they could care less if those trash talkers buy one or not.

They stand behind their product, even if Mick is a bit of a hot head. :)

I like them. I've only had one and it is a folder, the AR. It has been all I could ask for though. I had read alot of information before I bought it and had read about hit/miss qc, rough action, loose lockup, and awful fit/finish. The person I purchased said that the AR did not have those problems so I made the purchase. Sure enough it didn't have any of those problems. The action is as smooth as any knife I have, actually smoother than several. The lockup is tight and the lockbar has not moved from the spot on the blade tang it was in the 1 1/2 years I've owned it. With those thick liners (.100") it is almost like a framelock.

I wanted a very heavy duty knife at the time I purchased this AR and that is exactly what I got. I like it well enough that I've just ordered a second AR that I should get at the end of the month. The new one has the digicam-ghost blade finish.

Like some folks have said, it's hard to base your decision on what others say, because what others are saying go from the bad to the good. Your just going to have to see for yourself if this is what you want, and you'll probably have to buy it to see for sure.

I just got 2 Sng's and they are realy good knives. but one has great action the other one is stiff and gritty, but oh well, still a good knife.

Mick Strider is a gifted designer , hype or no hype . I like some of his stuff lots , never had a bad experience with any of the 7-10 I have owned . For every hater , there are at least 2 that love his stuff .

Chris

I'm loving my SnG. The handle is comfortable and the thing is brick
Josh has been really nice to me at shows too.

I liked the AR/GB and the PT. The others, not so much, not enough blade, and the one sided G10 wears to make blade play after awhile. And overpriced IMHO.

Depends on your needs. I abuse the crap out of my folders, and striders have taught me what is possible. With the exception of a spydie millie for the very delicate thin-knife needs, I only own strider folders. And for fixed blades, it's strider, busse, or customs for me. Regardless of what some say about him, i know that he will fix or replace his knives, no matter how you managed to break it. And I've put my full weight sideways on his folders more than once, and that has yet to happen.

I have a Strider PT folder (only Strider knife I currently have) and I have used it heavily and have not 'babied' it at all. It's still solid and is used as my EDC folder.
(Some say it's too small for an EDC folder, but it cuts like a 'grown up' big knife.)
As such, I'm impressed with my Strider folder.

The only thing that is not as functional (in my opinion only) is on the Strider tanto blades. The front edge is unsharpened. I understand this is done for the knife to be potentially used as a pry bar, but I personally like all edges of my knives to be sharp.

Go to knife shows, reputable retailers, etc. and handle the various knives you're interested in. Then, you can make an informed decision and buy the knife that best suits you and fits best in your hand.

Regards,
Mike

Huh? All my tantos have been sharp on both edges. The Tanto tip is more obtuse than the main blade area but it is sharp.

I have a bunch of Strider fixed blades and several of their folders. Strider has given me outstanding customer service.

When they first came out with their folders the fit and finish weren't the best. However, they have improved their fit and finish and their more recently made folders
are fine. There new SnG with the stonewashed blade is very nice.

Here custom Strider SMF with a damascus blade.

I'm thinking about picking up a left-handed SNG tanto, but I'd like to hear folks' opinions on the company before I drop $475 on a knife.

So: what do you think of Strider? Good company? Good products?

Yeah, see...I'd heard some, uh, interesting things about the guy who runs the company.

Which is why I'd rather know what kind of company it's going to. ;)

Thanks for the input, I think I might take my cash elsewhere.

I remember seeing one thread that cast some pretty harsh aspersions on Mick Strider's character...that's enough to make me wary.

I dont know why you even bothered to start this thread, if not for the *WOW* factor. Most of us know there are "other threads", most of us know about all the hype, rumors etc.

If you knew- why start a new thread about it at all?

MORIMOTOM is the only one who has the plot. I would hate to be labeled a Striderette, so I will say I have had full blown customs and regular production Striders, I have NO issues with them at all.

Keith, how many Striders you got up there in Canada, eh? :)

:D

Strider makes a number of interesting, well made knives and they have fine customer service. What more do you want?

Damn you wanting to by the knife or know about the company or the person ?
Striders are damn tuff knives .
Mick is a damn good guy .
There is so much BS going on here .
Read all you want to on the net about how this shit or that shit is .
It boils down to this if you like it buy it .
If you don't then don't .
We all have choices.

OilMan wants to be my moral compass on this one. He politely reminded me via PM that I had to send in 1 Strider folder for a pivot to be replaced. ( It was handled 1,2,3 in a timely and professional manner)

Thanks for the heads up, Greg ol buddy!:D:thumbup:

The question wasn't asked to me, but I have 6 at the present, and there's a great authorized Strider dealer on this side of the border.

Another over here and if I have my way there will be another SMF only with gunner grips this time. For me they are worth the money as much as my CRK's are.
