opinions on the Buck 55?

I consider the Buck 55 to be my perfect jean watch pocket knife. Unlike the smaller Case peanuts, which disappear in my watch pockets, the Buck 55's bolster sticks out just enough when slanted to provide my fingers something to pull on. I love it as a watch pocket knife.

I purchased my Buck 55 off Amazon last year. I think they've got some of the best prices on Buck knives, and I got it in two or three days. No pictures here, though...

I bought a 55 a while back just to check it out. Intended use was for the office - we have a 2.5" max blade length. I didn't really expect to like it, but now I rarely take anything else to work. It's enough knife to be useful for a broad range of tasks, but is small enough and slim enough that I hardly notice it in my front pocket.

Here is one I bought recently to replace a very used one that lost itself. The stepdown cuts on the ends of the scales seem more pronounced and visually noticeable on this one vs my old one and others I see in this thread. Along with the extremely dark, porous wood grain and a slight recurve in the blade I was a little disappointed with my sight unseen purchase from Amazon and Buck's QC. Love the 55 though!

I agree with the comments above - it's just about the perfect office knife for me. I work in a professional office setting in NYC so I'm a little wary of the knife laws and the random bag searches that the police enforce every now and then. The traditional style and compact size of the 55 make it very discreet and compliant. But of course it's a Buck and a lockback so I know it's reliable, safe and practical. Got it on amazon for a great price too.

The only problem with this knife is that I liked it so much that I couldn't resist looking at the 500 series. Thought about the 505 to have something roughly the same size with a drop point but went with the 503 to have something just a bit bigger but still small and discreet. It should be in the mail when I get home tonight!

Is there a what's the difference between the 505 and 55 other than handle and blade shape? I like the 503... is there an equivalent with the 55s blade? is it the 112? I'm so confused haha

My bad, I got it all mixed up. The 503 is just about the same size as the 55 so I got the 501.

As for differences, I think its the blade shape and handle materials. Stelths picture on the first page of this thread makes the general style look very comparable.

I think the main differences are that the 55 has a clip point blade and brass bolsters, but the 503 has a drop point blade and nickel silver bolsters. It also looks like the bolsters on the 55 are curved on the inside edges, but the 503 bolsters look to be slanted. That's assuming I am seeing the pictures correctly.

Anyone have pics of the 55 and 112 inhand? I'm debating between the two and waiting to pull the trigger.

I read this thread and recently ordered a Buck 55. I got it yesterday and could not be happier. I wanted to downsize from a SAK Hiker which I have used as an EDC for several years.

I have the 503 prince, which is very similar. It's a slimline. Excellent knife. It's basically the 55 but silver nickel instead of gold. One of my favorites.

I grabbed a 055 the first time I saw one. Great little knife, perfect for watch pocket carry in places where others may become terrified by anything larger like the office or business meetings. Love it!

Strange that Buck advertises the 055 as a half-size version of the 110. In fact, it's a half-size version of the 111, with the same curved bolsters. I always thought the 111 to be a much more attractive variety of the basic 110. It's quite hard to find a NOS 111 that does *not* have a blade cut-out. I've got a pre-86 nickel silver beauty. I'd like to find a matching brass one.
