Opinions on the Ecotat?

i have one. i've used it several times and it seems to have problems keeping the water out when raining. i'm not a big guy, and even for me it seemed to be pretty tight inside. it is a pain getting in and out of it. i will not get rid of mine, but i don't use it much.

i have a new military issue gortex bivy that i love using. i just throw up a tarp and slip into the bivy and i'm good to go. lightweight, simple, dry and warm.

if you have any more questions let me know.

Care to link to your new bivy? I've been looking at some other, smaller bivies (sp?) to try, but they all seem to expensive.

Wow! Great find.

I'm going canoeing for 3-4 days after X-mas. I plan to test out my Ecotat and see how I like it.

Pastorsoup is right on the money. I too have the TMP...it's a good design for a very compact tent. I haven't had any issues with leakage, but it's a little tight.

I also have the newer Bivi..actually two, I was issued the new ACU pattern one before we deployed to Iraq. I may just have to take a "statement of charges" for my whole new ECWCS system...

I love the Bivi bag. If you want light weight and good protection, that's the way to go. I can go down to freezing temps with my Bivi, light bag and Siltarp for cover if it's raining hard.

ECOTAT is still up and running. I'm planning to get a new ECOTAT light weight bag. That design (made by Wiggie's) is one of the best designed bags (for military use). Absolutely love them!

Rock6,

Could you post to the new system you are talking about? Or is that just a new Ecotat your talking about?

thanks

I don't know if you have ever thought of this or not. This is something that I picked up from my dad and all the camping that I have done with him. I use a military body bag as a bivy, shelter, drag or stretcher. They can be a little bulky but they are water proof and if I really screw up people have a way to get me out.
