Opinions on the S.O.G. Mini vulcan

I love alot about my Vulcan,,,,,, but alot I don't like as well. Top dislikes are cheap Zytel handle material, very plasticy. Also the finger choils are unevenly placed, one too big, the other 2 far back.

It doesn't get any pocket time in my rotation, I constantly think to sell it for the right price, just never seem to get around to it though.

Last comment is that God forbid it would look impressive in a fight with its looks and shiny blade.

Yeah, I wouldn't put too much faith on the arc lock to be honest, if lock strength is what you are looking for. Cold Steel triad lock is what I would trust my life to, if I had to choose a folder.

I find that really really hard to believe. It sure feels like it can't handle 1,000 lb of force.
just because it says it was tested that high means it passed

but this doesnt change my opinion on it i doubt the axis lock could handle that, and even the triad locks arent measured that high so i think its fair to just leave it at 250lbs + for all three (axis arc triad)

Well it doesnt' say how many inches from the pivot.
600 lbs 4.5 inches from the pivot.
Unless it's from 4 or more inches from the pivot, Tri-Ad still beats it.
1000 lbs 1 inch away is heavy duty.
1000 lbs 2 inches away is really heavy duty.
1000 lbs 3 inches away is extremely heavy duty.
1000 lbs 4 is inches away is practically a fixed blade.

Anyways, I tried the Vulcan. It's actually a pretty nice knife but I agree, there are better deals, but this one is still worth it's price.
I heard SOG's VG-10 is comparatively soft compared to the other manufacturers.

I got my mini vulcan about 3 weeks ago, and figured it would be my only SOG, and it turns out it probably will be.... Mine has vertical blade play, unless I push the arc lock "in" a little to really set it in, then no blade play. But I could deal with that. The worst part is the blade play when the knife is closed, again you have to push the arc lock and then the blade is snug shut. If you don't, the blade can open about 1/16th out of the handle, and you could catch the tip of the blade in your pants when removing it from the pocket....:grumpy: Oh well, its useable, and it looks and feels cool in the hand.

Use it for awhile and you may find that the lock seats itself better.

Ive got a mini-vulcan tanto and I really like it - great ergonomics, great blade shape, great aesthetics, smooth action. But the one problem I have is that it keeps developing blade play and I have to tighten the pivot almost every day. Other than that its an awesome knife. Probably the sharpest out of the box of any I've bought, and has kept its edge the best so far too. Does anyone else have problems with the pivot loosening?

My mini Vulcan has been my daily carry knife more than 75% of the time for the past 18ish months now. I find the arc lock to be really easy to use, the flipper to make it extremely easy to open and the handle to feel very full and substantial, particularly impressive for a knife that carries so comfortably in my waist band.

I've never had issues with the pivot on mine loosening, but that sounds like something a little dab of blue loctite would solve lickety split.
