Opinions on the UK Penknife

Can't carry a locking folder in San Antonio either.

True but from what I hear, it is not readily enforced. As long as you are not doing anything illegal then I don't think it should be a problem. However, it doesn't hurt to carry a non locking knife "just in case". But that's just me as I really like the UKPK, Urban, and Squeak lines from Spyderco.

I was considering getting the Ti version, but I don't really want to spend $100+ for what will be a light duty blade for me. I just wanted one for those days I need to take the subway into the city since transit cops can search you if they want

Yep. I got mine for $99. I still like it. It has significantly more weight to it than the G10 versions. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1353602156.393436.jpg

Are you saying that those cops would have a problem with you carrying one of the knives you usually carry? If so, you should probably take a look at point 5 on the posting rules explained in this thread: www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/494370-NEED-HELP-Read-this-before-posting!-Rules-Paid-Memberships-FAQ-s-amp-More

Nothing wrong with his post.

What I reacted against was the idea of getting a special knife (a legal one) for carrying when there's a risk of being searched by the cops. That kind of implies that you're saving your other knives for carrying when there's practically no risk to be searched by cops. If this wasn't the intention, the fact that "transit cops can search you if they want" wouldn't matter at all. If you always carry a legal knife, you wouldn't have to get a special knife for carrying when the risk of getting searched is higher, because you don't have anything to hide anyway. That's the impression I got from that post, especially since I've heard how strict the pocket knife laws of NYC are. If I somehow thouroughly misunderstood things, I apoloqize. The bottom line is: only carry knives that are legal to carry where you intend to carry them.

Don't get me wrong, I'm just as much against the global phobia against pocket knives as any other person here, but we are the good guys and as long as the laws look the way they look, we have to abide by them, which is why I think it's extra important to make sure that people follow the anti illegality posting rule on the forums.

well, got the ukpk on saturday. unfortunately i was mislead into thinking i was getting a vg-10 ukpk. the online retailer stated in the description that the blade steel was vg-10 when in fact its the gin-1 version. i should have done some research because as far as i can tell, there isnt a vg-10 ukpk...anyway, like i said i got it on saturday and i am seriously impressed. what an amazing little knife for the price! light, awesome blade shape (leaf), nice clip, this blade has soooo much going for it...i am gonna be rocking it for a few weeks, putting it through the paces and seeing how it holds up. but so far, its become a favorite

Nope. No VG10 models.
Gin-1? Must be an older model. Pics? Is it G10 or FRN?

I have a couple of the Ti UKPK's and have one on me at all times, great knife.

Thanks, viper89. I like FRN, but never got a FRN UKPK as I wasn't crazy about the grind. I'm anxiously awaiting the release of the FFG version.

Me too :) I've the safety orange G10, which is FFG and love it. The only thing I don't like is the color, it draws to much attention so I'm EDC-ing it less frequently then I'd like to. Want to buy another "regular" one in FRN but waiting for the FFG version of it.

The orange FFG leaf is the only one I'm missing from my collection!!
PM me if you'd complete it for me. :D

Frn version jacobwilson99
I'll likely get a Ti version later on down the road. Perhaps at Blade show 2013...

After years of owning Spydies, I got my first UKPK today and love it. Orange FRN, BD1 user. Super light weight, feels great, perfect thumb ramp with excellent jimping top and bottom. I'm already plotting to get an SE blue flavor. At $31 shipped, its awesome.

Any notable difference between GIN-1 and BD1? I'm assuming that BD1 is new and improved, and I've read a little about Mr. Sal getting the BD1 baked up just right to his tastes.

But I do love this knife, and had a good time taking it apart, cleaning it up and giving a little polish to the blade.
