Have a chance to pick this furnace up for heat treating has a new controller $375.00 what do you guys think of this machine and price? Here is the sellers description
Electric high temp. furnace. Excellent for heat treating metal, or smelting and melting metals. 2000 deg. F. New Omega
controller and temperate adjustment module. Omega CN9000A. +- 4 deg. Furnace made by Thermolyne. Fire box is
25" deep front to back, 10 1/2" wide and 11" high. New door seals. 220 Volt, single phase. Very solid and in great shape. Kiln 1.jpg Kiln 2.jpg Kiln 3.jpg Kiln5.jpg

Controller is pretty basic as far as functions, but could be easily upgraded (Not that Omega is a bad controller by any means.) The dimensions don't seem right to me, but it could just be the pictures. Doesn't seem like it's 25" deep.
At any rate, if the inside was in decent shape, I'd pick it up for that price.

Absolutely for that price.

Just wondering if it is worth investing in as it seems most send there SS knifes out to pros for heat treat so this would be just for carbon steel. The inside is in excellent condition according to the seller as he described it had some sort of tile in it that the heating element laid in the joints of that on the top and sides and sounded like the bottom was solid tile.

this is a Thermolyne lab furnace. get a look at the data plate, should give the part number. MSRP on a new one would be in the $5K-$7K range. I have a different model I picked up for very little. the elements are embeded in the ceramic that makes up the top, bottom and walls.

I take that as its a good deal and go ahead and get it?

Stainless carbon whatever. It's a newer commercial grade heat treat furnace for less than half the price of an evenheat. Shouldn't even be a debate.
