I recently was approached by a registered member w/ one positive feedback about a trade +$100 cash. The trade is definitely a fair deal.

He wants to ship at the same time which I am a little concerned about due to his lack of feedback. I have spoken w/ him on the phone and he he seems like a nice guy. I was told this is a present for his brother who is in the military which I think is a very nice gesture. My only concern is that if we ship at the same time (which he wants to do) there is no guarantee he doesn't ship me a box of rocks and I'm out a $500 knife. Clearly I'm shipping my knife in the condition as described w/ a stress free transaction, since I have nearly 1000 posts and 81+ feedbacks. Would you run away from this trade? Thanks for your opinions.

I would politely explain the feedback situation and your concerns. Then I would insist that he sends first. I think that most reasonable people would be fine shipping first if they completely understand the situation. If he still wont, then yes, I would walk away.

I thinks it's a courtesy that shouldn't be an issue for a low feedback member, especially since you have 81+ feedbacks. Also since you are established he should feel good about it anyways. Especially if nothing shady is in the works. Have you asked for him to ship first? If so, did he have a problem with it?

My advice is to trust your gut on this one. There is no reason he shouldn't ship first given your stellar feedback and his lack thereof. Explain to him that its just standard operating procedure around here.

There has been a lot of recent commentary about trading with people who possess little to no feedback. I suggest reading those threads and tangential posts.

Personally if a trade involved a low value item, $50-$70 pr so, I would deal with someone who had little to no feedbacko. A $500 item? No way. In that case I wouldn't bother with anyone who had less than 300 or so posts to examine and at least 15 feedbacks.

He was advocating for us to ship at the same time. Perhaps I should link him to this thread to read through.

This was my exact thoughts

Zach,

He must send his first along with the $100.00

If he had 80 + feed-backs like you things would be different

No way would I ship first.. You have been around a good amount of time and that has to count for something. Hold tight and just say you ship first or no deal.

If it were you I was trading w/ we wouldn't even be having this conversation. Thanks or you input. Rickster is top notch in my book. Thank you sir!

I'm in a similiar situation right now, I didn't ask the guy to ship first, But his feedback is a lot lower than mine , we exchanged phone numbers and he paypaled me 100 bucks, we are set to ship out tomorrow, The guy I'm dealing with seems stand up, plus knowing that he has already paypaled me the 100 dollars plus the fact I have his cell number puts my mind at ease, but trust your gut , if you want him to ship first say it , if he declines walk away.

I would request he ship first. Zach is as stand up as they come. I think it's great that you are asking the community and as far as the guy your trading with tell him to express ship to you. It's 1 day extra and a huge comfort.

jjjeschke we've done business you know what your getting w/ me and the same goes for you. I figured I throw this out there so the community can give me some input.

It's as simple as the newbie shipping first and then you. That way he gets started (and possibly gets his positive feedback), and then after 15, can deal with Alfred McDougal possibly. ;-)

If this were a $30 trade I'd say same time send. Given the $$$ that you're talking about I'd say he ships first and that's that.

If you aren't comfortable, let the other person know. Be honest with him. While starting a thread to garner opinion and rally for support is fine, it really is unecessary.

Not looking for support really. Ultimately it's my knife, my money, and my decision. Wasn't starting a thread to bash the other guy or convince him to ship first. Just wondering if I was asking for something unreasonable or if other members had similar views. It's seem like other members would be hesitant to ship this out w/o any guarantee they would see a knife in return which is purely the intent of my thread. Mods feel free to lock it down if I'm out of line.

I'm surprised you really had to ask this question.
