Purchased a knife, paid seller price of knife plus usps shipping with insurance ($106 knife, shipping with insurance $6.50 total $112.50). Knife never arrived. Seller waited two months until usps processed his claim then only returned to me $103 and has failed to indicate to me why he believes that is all I am entitled to as a refund. He has ignored all my e-mails.

I believe I am entitled to a refund of the entire amount $112.50.

What is your opinion?????

Many companies and individuals do not refund shipping and insurance if something goes missing. I have no idea what the extra $3.00 was held back for. Personally I would not do this. If someone paid me $112.50 for a knife that is what they would get back. They would also not have to wait until I got the money before getting their refund. I hold onto the money until I am sure that the other person has received their goods and has let me know that they are happy with what they got. That way, if I have to give a refund, I have not already spent the money.

I guess you will just have to consider the $9.50 you lost to be a lesson learned. Make sure you ask the person you are buying something from what their policy is in regards to refunds if the item is lost in shipping, or if you are not happy with the item/s you have purchased. That way there will be no surprises.

gotta agree with Keith. If someone sends me money for a knife and the knife does not arrive, they immediately get the exact amount they sent me. It just is not fair that the buyer should be penalized for the knife not arriving, no matter how small the amount..........Ira

If you paid for the shipping/insurance, then the shipping/insurance fee is your money and you should get it back. The seller should AT LEAST give you a response to you with an explaination of the difference, regardless if they intend to give you the rest of the money back or not.

My guess would be that the seller is charging you for packing materials and handling the return. (Insert: I do not agree with this practice. Shipping materials are just a cost of doing business. If you ship priority mail you can get the boxes and tape FREE from the post office, so if that turns out to be the sellers 'reason' then that is IMHO a poor excuse.)

I would request a refund of the difference formally in writing (email is still not a reliable in some instances as we would like), and if you still get no response I would certainly not buy from them again (but for $10 I doubt that I would make a big fuss on the forums about it, but it is your $10 and I certainly would not think less of you if you choose to do so).

Post the name, so that tthe rest of us know this person's "code of ethics" (or lack thereof...)

The whole concept of this forum is to KNOW who the good, bad and ugly are, not just to know about a good, bad or ugly transaction.
Dac you really need to tell us who the seller is....Ira:(

I understand wolfmann's comment and those of others who wished the name published.

I have been attempting to get the gentleman to pony up the difference and wondered if I was off base, that is why I originally posted.

I do not know if he frequents this forum. The purchase was made after he attempted to auction a knife on bladeauctions which did not sell (I came accross it after the autction closed). He has auctioned a number of knives there.

Ira and others are correct, his name is Bob Koschoreck from St Cloud, FL and he goes by drreturntop on bladeauctions.

I disagree that you should get your insurance back... that is why you pay it. If you wreck your car, you don't get the your insurance premiums back. As for shipping and that other $3, I dunno... sucks that you aren't getting any response from that seller.

Actually I could see it both ways now.

I originally thought insurance was what you pay to not loose ANY money on the deal. It could also be what you pay not to loose money on the knife itself.

hmmm, as usual, no easy answer, still you're off cheap. Next time clarify, I suppose.

There are quite a few folks on BA who use shipping/handling as a means to make a few extra bucks. I went thru it with 'TIZZYBEA". I needed a joke knife for someone. I bid one buck for one of her garbage knives [most are garbage knives].

Well things changed and I no longer needed the knife so as soon as the auction ended I sent her the buck with specific directions NOT to ship the knife, just relist it [she had about 24 of the same knife].
Nope, she stated that shipping and handling must be paid even if the knife is not shipped, even if it's not packaged. I refused to pay and by the looks of her negative feedback does this crap often.

Then I won a knife from another small time clone dealer long since gone from BA. The bid was for $4.00, shipping was $12.00. I sent $16.00 and never got a knife. He said it was lost and sent me back $4.00. His reason: he went through the trouble of packaging and shipping and it's not his fault it got lost. I said thats the price of being a dealer. This was long before I knew BFC existed, if I did he would have made the ugly list.
Whatever you send a seller for a knife gets returned if the knife does not arrive. That is the way "Gentlemen" and "Lady" knifeknuts do things...........Ira

WOW!! This transaction didn't even take place with a known Blade Forum member. You tried to beat the system and get a deal on a closed auction, and the seller seems legit ( He could have kept all your $$) It does seem that he has been willing to work with you and has made a very sincere effort to get you your $$. Perhaps there is a misunderstanding of the amount paid and that justifies the missing $3. It is the practice of USPS to take a couple of months to pay a claim for a lost item and then they DO NOT PAY SHIPPING CHARGES , just the actuall cost of the item. Sorry that you lost $ on the deal, but at least the seller obviously put forth some effort.
This don't belong in this forum, please move it to............ WHINE AND CHEESE

As I should have asked my first instinctual question, was this a BA transaction? It's a whole different set of rule's, anything goes. I don't care what happen's on any other sight unless that person is a member. One more lesson learned by the Masterchef!!!!:footinmou
