Messieurs,

I'm sure, some of you saw the old 119 at eBay. I bought it.
The blade of the knife is in a pretty god condition and not much used. But the handle ...?
And I don't think that it is made by Buck.

Now I'm not sure what to do with the knife:

Shall I leave it as it is?

Shall I change the handle that it looks lik a Buck knife, or

Shall I make a new Haebbie style handle?

Please, guys, tell me your opinion.

Best,
Haebbie

Send it to Leroy at Triple R Knives. He can put a phenolic handle back on it and make it shine like a new penny, or in your case Euro.

Haebbie, It looks good the way it is... But a Haebbie handle would look good too... Good luck... ITE

You don't like the handle???

It's old and unique and very nice-looking.

I'd keep it just as it is, myself.

Congrats on getting that nice old knife.

:)

Depending on what you want to do with it should give you your answer. But why do you want to change it? I like it just the way it is. The stag handle and the bronze insert & guard look great to me. Plus, it sounds like it could have a story somewhere. You currently have a unique 119?

I would definitely keep it the way it is. All you need is a nice deerskin sheath with about 6" fringe draped down.

That is a shame for a collector but many people modify them. I have one like that in my collection and those are hard to find. The blade would clean up, no problem.
Your call if you want to replace the handle to original or use it as is. DM

Send it to me. I promise to give it a good home and since I have several 119'syears, it won't be lonely:D.

Two liners can be scarce but certainly not rare. Leave it as is, if you have to have a Buck handle...buy another. It's unique as is. If you had it rehandled it wouldn't be original anyways.

Hi Haebbie,

Yes I did see that knife floating in the bay. You know I love stag handles! But, I do not like the cheap looking brass guard....not at all. That is why I did not cast a line into the bay and reel it in;). Unlike most of the comments above, I say "Make it a new/old Haebbie custom". I guess, based on the comments above some of the folks above don't know you are a skilled craftsman and can do your own custom work. So my Buck brother do this knife a favor and make it look the way it should.

I'm with jb4570 on this. I've seen your work and I've no doubt that you could turn it into a really beautiful custom.

Thank you, guys, for your knid answers. I am not surprised that a lot of you vote
for "leaving it as it is". That was the thought when I bougt it too. What I don't like:
The guard is loose. I have no other chance to take the knife apart to fix the brounce tin.
Then I can have a look at the tang. if it is shotened, that is what I assume, I would
mount it again with the existing parts. If the tang is complete it would be a challenge
to make it better, may be with the parts I dismounted.

Let's see, and Thanks again for your help

Best,
Haebbie

Put my vote in for you to get rid of that handle and you make something nice out of it. And take a lot of pictures.

Hi Haebbie. I think that you should clean up that blade, git rid of that guard, and pot one of your own cool handles on it.

Jeff

Bad news: The tang is cut.
It is only a few longer than the rivet marks.
I hate these stupid people which doesn't know
what they do. The blade looks great but at
least it is trash. :(

I've to think about it.

Haebbie

Well, guys, I took it apart. And it was a good decision to do it.
I foujnd what I thought, the tang is shortened to less than
a half. But that's not the point.

The handle was glued with a hot glue gun. Everybody knows
that thisa is not a save method. Especially because the drilled
hole was too large and was at least filled wit some pieces of wood.
No form fit at all. Only the rivet fixed the blade in the handle.

What I can do now is to weld on a piece of steel or take an antler and
make an interlocking linkage. Your opinion?

Best,
Haebbie
