Opinions - sub-$100 under 2" locking folders?

I wonder if we could e-mail the designer, and ask him to flip it around. Seems like it wouldn't be THAT tough...?

I spoke with Mike and he is going to try to make a mouse trap that accepts the pivot end of the knife. He told me to check back in a week. If there is enough interest I may pick up a few to sell.

The sheath is really cool -- just wish I could figure out what to do with it! Also wish it allowed me to attach a fob to the mouse, but it goes into the sheath upside down.

I can see wanting a "tail" on your Mouse. Maybe Mike will come up with a reversed rig for you.

Keep in mind, though, that the regular Mousetrap lets you draw directly into a Spyderco Drop. It takes some practice, but with one sharp downward pull you end up with an open Mouse in your hand. I doubt that would be possible with a reversed sheath.

I've considered the toad. How does it compare to the mouse?

I have both. The Toad is a neat little knife, smaller and lighter than the Mouse. On the other hand, it is also designed for much lighter use. Think of the Toad as half a razor blade in a comfortable handle. Think of the Mouse as a hunting and wilderness survival knife. :)

Also, about the chive - From what I can tell, the steel is listed as "420" - which 420? How is the edge retention? Is a bad steel?

I believe the Chive uses 420HC. Most people seem to rate that as mediocre rather than bad, but it certainly isn't in the same class as VG-10. It should be a decent steel for casual use.

Dennis,
If this happens can you post the availability of the new sheath? I know that I would definately be interested in one.
Also, if you posted this over at the Spydie forum, I'm sure that there would be a significant interest from both present & future "Mouse" owners.

This is one of the things that Mike told me. You would lose this draw option in the tradeoff.

More Spydercos:

The Navigator: Plain or "Spyderedge", Blue Almite handles, GIN1 steel 2 1/8" blade, under 3 oz. ~$55

The old Co-Pilot: if you can find one.

if you want tip up carry then get the mouse and if you want tipdown carry then get the co- pilot....i prefer tip up carry and have the mouse...i have used/carried it over a year now and its a nice substitute for my small seb when i need a bit smaller knife...the action/pivot can be a bit stiff at first but a daily drop or two of tuf glide into the pivot area worked in thoroughly does the job in a few days....mine is now silky smooth and with tight lock up without any blade play....feverdoc

Thanks. I was practicing the "spyie drop" last night and it only worked about 1/2 the time. I think my bottle of Tuff-glide is at my wifes house, so I'm trying some White Lightning on it. I generally like White Lightning better anyway, but I could see the Tuff-Glide working well in this case.
