Opinions wanted about new Sheathdesign..

Hi guys..

I'd like to hear your opinions about this sheath I'm experimenting with.
It has a fat kydex liner, and a fat halftanned leather cover around it.

It's a bit of a crossover between my Technical sheath and the good 'ol Ratweiler pattern.
I like to have this sheath as many carry options as possible, so I used a 0.125" kydex plate on which a teklok or a leather droploop could be mounted. (The stiff halftanned leather makes this possible. It's almost as stiff as it would be on a kydex only sheath). For high carry a tek lok can be mounted directly onto the leather. Lots of rivet holes make it easy to strap it onto anything..

Pro's are: lots of carry options, a nice stand-off that makes grabbing the handle very easy..
Con's: bulky because of the rivets and the stand-off beltloop

anyway.. this is a nice proto that works well, but allready could be improved at certain points.

Question is.. do YOU like the idea, and is it worth to develop it further, or is this overkill?
Would you want a sheath like this for a certain knife?

If yes.. What would you like to add? or change?

Thanks,

The only thing I dislike about it, other than the color;), is all the rivets near the belly of the blade. Do those give it more carry options? It just looks a little busy to me.

That's what I was thinking too. If it were me, I'd sew it up to a certain point and use eyelets only on the top.

Martin, aside from the eyelet thing already mentioned, it looks good to me  I'm not a big fan of the stand-off belt-loops, but that's just my personal preference.

I like the concept, I do not like the way it tuned out.
I would try and replace some of the rivets, eyeholes etc with stitching, then add strategic eye hoes.
I would have the srtp wrap over the top of the handle by the guard.
I would add a fire steel loop.
I would add the ability to swivel the guard so it could be worn horizonatl/upside down (may work better with a smaller knife).
Keep trying though - the idea is great!

Thanks for your suggestions gents.

I like the fewer rivets idea. Next time I'll be sewing the belly and keep the rivets for the straight part of the sheath.. (maybe only 2 at the bottom next to the draining hole .. )

@iblade
In the pic the strap is in the parking position. For retention it swivels over the guard and uses the 2nd hole around the stud.

Loops and pouches can be added as you like, like with this one..

Any comments, please keep them coming. I would like to add some more flexibilitiy to my Ratweiler pattern and I think rivets may be the way to go..

Looks great Martin...I'm looking foward to my SBT sheath:D You are an absolute master sheath maker...I love your designs!
