Opinions wanted: Modifying a Buck 119

Just to clarify: I wasn't suggesting you buy the 3V copy. But instead, that you might be interested in replicating what Buck did - they cut the tip of a normally shaped 119 blade (it's shorter, you can tell holding them next to each other). Photo from Buck's website:

I guess it's similar to your picture #1.

Wow. I love the look of that knife.

I did exactly that ( almost exact same red cut line as your pic above)
Imo , way too much of a drop down.
I did another one where I just went from the the bottom of the swedge dip , and horizontal with the knife out to the tip.. Much better , and way less steel to remove. It also put the point centre-line of the handle .
So basically , just flattened the last two inches from the bottom of the swedge out to the tip. The tip got a little wider ( ie. stronger) doing this.

I am still going to do this, but I haven't made much progress beyond drawing the lines on the blade.
Hopefully soon I'll have the time to focus on this project.
Keep us informed if you decide to proceed!

Here are pix of my mods to the tip. I decided to remove metal down to the original blade flat, which is slightly less than what I had drawn in my scematic. I like this tip shape, kinda like some early bowie tips, and it preserves most of the belly. I also sanded the handle with a coarse grit sand paper which makes a better grip when wet. It is ready for the field now.

I rough sanded and groved the handle to give me a better grip when wet. It turned out really great for my purposes.
