Hi - I think the design looks neat and it looks like you put some effort into finishing. I'd like to add a couple of ideas to improve on the next one:

I agree that you want to define your grind line if it comes so low, but even better with this design would be to carry the grind higher. I feel like this blade would benefit from a full-height flat grind.

The handle scales seem a bit thick, the contour is fine on them if they were thinned down, but if you wanted them that thickness to swell in the palm I would do more contouring so that only the middle is full thickness.

It's hard to tell from the pics, but it looks like the hand-sand may be a bit "wavy". If that's just the photos, please disregard, but if it isn't quite even, you may try pulling slowing in one direction on your finishing passes. I pull the block from plunge to tip in one continuous motion and do it slow enough that I won't move the block from side to side.

I hope that helps!

It shows that you put a lot of effort into this one, panchO!

I like the micarta and pins/thong tube, and the finish looks overall very good. I'm not sure about the hump in the back, I think I'd have to hold it to make up my mind...if it felt good, I'd like it, and if not, then not. I agree with the others that some more thinning and/or contouring of the handle would add interest, and the grind line being raised would also be a good thing.

Well done, thanks for sharing your work.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Those are all excellent point and I will be correcting those things in the future.

My guess is the grind line dissapeared when you sanded the flats and ricasso, Get them all pretty will finished and then do you final grind. When you sand the flats use a backing plate like a piece of micarta or wood. I would have taken the handle a little farther forward to be more comfortable on the finger and take the grind up farther on the blade.

Very nice overall and should make a good knife for EDC

Yes thats pretty much what happened. It was pretty tough doing the grinds on my craftsman 2x42. I used leather between the wood block and the sanding paper. Would that be a culprit also?

The above comments are pretty much on target.
I would comment that;
The blade needs some distal taper.Make it taper in thickness from the ricasso to the tip next time.
The handle looks a little blocky.Don't just round off the corners, curve all surfaces into a continuous oval or ellipse.
The bevels need to go higher and be smoother.
I like thumb ramps.
You did a good job. There is room for improvement, but the overall knife is nice.

You should probably try to use a stiff backing, I use micarta and wood to give a sharper line. Rough sand the flats on your belt sander to 220, rough grind the bevel to about 120. Heat Treat, grind the flats with 120- 220 to clean up and finish sand to 400-600. Finsh grind you bevel 80 - 220 and you should have a nice look without alot of sanding. You can alway do more sanding. Use water with a couple of drops of soap as a cutting fluid. Just wet enough to float the cuttings.

If you carry your grinding line up the blade farther you will get the distal tape discussed and a better cutting angle on your edge. I would to withing 3/8 t o1/2 in of the back of the blade, just see what looks good.

Good first blade, the next will be really premo.
