Hey guys, finances are going to get pretty tight soon, so this could be the last knife I will be able to purchase for a while. I know it will be my decision, but I am still interested in getting everyone's opinions and ideas. I would like to keep my budget around 120 dollars. I have narrowed it down to three so far. The one I am really leaning towards is the all black Spyderco Paramilitary 2. The next one is the Spyderco Manix 2 Lightweight. Lastly, I thought about ordering one of the 100 dollar WE knives with the D2 blade. I seen several designs that I liked. Which one would you go with, or should I look at something different? BTW, a question for those of you that own the WE knives, how thick are the blades compared to the Paramilitary2?

You might want to check out the exchange here. You'd be buying a knife from good folks that might fit your price range

I have a couple PM2's and a Maxamet Manix 2 Lightweight. Both knives are a great design but if I had to choose just one it would be the PM2 because I prefer the compression lock. The ball bearing lock in the Manix is supposed to be very strong but I'm confident in the compression lock being adequate for any task I use the knife for. Also, the PM2 is extremely easy to open and close one handed because of how freely the blade moves.

I think Spyderco's Paramilitary 2 is one the best knives for the money.

I notice you have "other" as an option. Maybe a Benchmade 560BK would suit you?
$123
3.6 inch blade
CPM-S30V
3.72 oz

So, dang near the same in price and specs. The question now becomes, which blade profile would you rather have and which lock would you prefer?

Love mine! (I should've gotten the BK version, looks awesome)

Yes, I am open to other options. I will check the BM 560 out.

This is what I was going to say having owned both.
However the WE would be a whole new experience and I have never owned any D2 so if funds were abundant then I would, perhaps, go there.

As far as "other" . . . but only if you could go a bit larger blade . . . then look at the Cold Steel Voyager in the large (not extra large unless you like being the focus of attention perhaps the LEO kind).

In the modern speak : No, but yah the Para 2 is a really good solid purchase and performer. Manix is great but lock more challenging and not as versatile a blade shape though stronger point. I have no problem with the Para's point. If you are going to be doing ALOT of really tough cutting where you really have to grip the knife then maybe the Manix for the win but if you wear gloves no prob. Para is PLENTY strong enough; more than the Manix come to think of it.

Voyager better than both. Only draw back is you don't get the fun compression lock.

There . . . that ought to keep you good and confused. :)
I hope one day you will be able to buy them all. Hang in there.

Here
This thread needs a little knife porn.
Oh and don’t drop it in the dark it will try to hide from you; they are devious that way.

HK 14715 Axis.

They're discontinued, but still out there.

Bet you could get one at One Stop Knife Shop.

It's a badass piece.

IMHO get a CH Knives CH3001. It is D2, has more blade for the handle than a PM2, titanium handles, ball bearing pivot, and is lighter than the PM2. It can be had for $60 shipping included. You can get with green, blue, purple, or natural grey handle anodization. I think that the CH3001 is a hard deal to beat.

Thanks for the heads up, I will check that one out.

What are you expecting to do with the knife? If it is just a knife to occasionally show off to your buddies, or to open envelopes and packages, than any one of your choices will suffice. If it will be used for work purposes that may effect the recommendation. So what will you be cutting up with the knife?

I EDC a Spyderco Gayle Bradley for use around my shop and property, and carry a very small Swiss Army as a gents knife. I keep a Leatherman in the glove compartment of my cars. All serve my purposes very well.

Here is some info about the GB if you are not familiar with it.

Of those listed......Para 2. Very close to perfect in regards to value, quality, performance and FUN!!
Also, many many versions to choose from!
Joe

I'd say go with the Para2.
All three choices are good though. I just bought one of the "entry level" WE knives and it's really nice. It's in a different category from your other choices. It's less of a work knife and more of a stylish EDC. Ceramic bearing pivot and detent and machined clip. It's fun to flip and carries very well.
So what I'm saying is - buy all three. :)
