Howdy All!I'm new to knife collecting but have been fortunate to establish dialogue with some bright individuals(some from this forum) whose wisdom has aided me immensely.

I'm interested in purchasing a custom knife and would love some advice.Although I presently have a knife maker in mind, you can never have too many options or choices.I desire an auto dagger that will hopefully retain it's value. My budget is $800 to $1000.Thank you,Motch

Thanks for the advice. That auto dagger is actually a Minnick custom if I'm not mistaken. An absolute beauty, unfortunately for me,that's a $2500 to $3000 dollar knife.Oh Well, maybe one day far far away.....

Hello.. Here's a couple to look at in your price range I have seen recently.. Right here on Blade Forums, look at the Philip Booth Mammoth Ivory dagger. It is a nice large piece (11' OAL) with dark damascus blade and matching bolsters.. Very nice knife, and Phil is a very good maker. It's in the for sale "auto" section.. On Blade Auction right now there is a beautiful black lip auto dagger (interframe) by Mel Pardue, who is also a a fantastic maker. I really like his stuff. Lastly, Bob Glassman, who participates on this Forum, has a new piece by Doc Hagen up on his site that is in your budget and looks great. I'm not personally familar with his knives, but I read a post by another member who handled this auto dagger in Las Vegas where Bob picked it up, and he wrote that it was top flight. Bob's website is customknifegallery.com... He carries auto daggers by Philip Booth as well..Hope this was helpful..Rich Slaughter..... BTW..Mr. Panak, "Burn", makes fantastic stiletto styled pieces, (many with dagger type blades), that can occasionally be found in your price range, but they go really fast.. If you ask around on this forum, you will hear nothing but nice things about him and his knives..Rich

Thanks rbslaughter. I originally had Nathan Clark's Bakke in mind. It's one big MF and built quite well.Throw on some ivory handles and full filework with titanium liners and a mirrored finish to both front bolsters and blade and BOOM! you have one really sweet knife.I must honestly say I'm totally impressed with Burn,Mr.Panak's knives and think I'll park some cah there. They really are nice knives, meet my style and quality requirements and clearly hold their value, assuming you can find someone willing to cough up big cash for a knife. His Swing Guard with smabar stag has to be the coolest switch I've ever seen!

Hello, Nathan was recently mention in Blade Magazine as a newer maker to get in on. (while his prices haven't gone through the roof).. I'm familiar with his Bakke model, and you can't go wrong there.. One other maker I neglected to mention in my earlier post that is in that price range and does excellent work is Larry Davidson. His website is called Rocketknives.com. He can make you a fully dressed out dirk or dagger for around 1000.00.. I don't own any of his, but have held one, and fired it, and it was a very nice looking and well made knife.. Good Luck..Rich Slaughter
