Ops manager says Tom Brown TRACKER School BROKE

I have a friend who has taken 6-7 classes there and has generously shared notes with me and taught me things since I cannot afford to go due to money and time. I am not into the spiritual side of the info, but the rest is solid for the most part. I hope the instructors mentioned start a school here in Minnesota!!

How much of each class does Tom Brown actually teach? From reading other places I got the impression he was sort of like Col Sanders, other people made the chicken and sold it and he just sort of was the public image.

I've read this in several places as well, that he makes (made) a few strategic appearances but the staff did almost all the real work.

Maybe as important, does he train the trianers, does he work with the actual instructors to keep everyone on the same page? Proabably not, in which case, anywhere they go, they'll do just as well without him.

If that message in the 1st post is true, I certainly hope they do! Its just that being good at something isnt usually enough, one has to know how to promote the business also. And that's something Tom Brown has done really really well.

I think we all realize that some students need the charisma to inspire them and others look for an outgoing personality with the technical knowledge to share. Promoting the business can grow the business, but a smaller operation run by dedicated teachers can attract students in numbers up to what they can handle themselves. Biggest isn't always best.

My wife is a big Tom Brown fan, has read all his books.

I've sort of skimmed most of them that are how to and it's mostly the sort of stuff we talk about here as far as the survival and primitive skills. They are decent.

My only criticisim of his books, and remember I skimmed them, is that I think they should have better pictures.

The ones that deal with plants or wilderness construction there are a lot better books as far as detail and color pics. The drawings in his books aren't all that good.

Tom teaches the tracking aspects, at least of the Standard class. I attended the 9/07 Standard Class that was mentioned in the OP's post.

Just my opinion, it was worth my time and money to learn hands-on the skills that formerly I'd only read about.

While opinions on Tom vs. the instructors vary, mine is that the instructors made the experience well-worth the cost to me, and Tom's classes, some philosophical and not necessarily inline with my own way of thinking, were still very interesting and were like icing on the cake.

I'm all about applying Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do philosophy to just about everything in life, as did I in regard to Tracker School: "Absorb what is useful (to you) and discard what is not."

:)

Professor.

I seem to remember a couple of drawings of Tom Brown doing "hunting" or something like that in a speedo - ugh. Don't need NO color photos of that! :barf:

" The labore is worthy of his hire".

When I have hired folks in the past they got paid before I did. That is the only ethical manner in which to run a business.

I would file all neccessary actions for your jurisdiction to gain your due pay. I hated to tsake that action once but was very happy when the ex employer in question showed up at my door at 10 o'clock at night with his checkbook. Seems the state dept. of labor and industries was attaching his real property untill he paid me.
