Optics....

Playing on Garth's new toy thread (I see few of his toys have optics). What optics are your favourite and why?

By admission I am... 'scoping out' new optics for two sbrs. One 5.56mm and one 300 blakout. Want it as light as possible for three gun. Magnification would be a plus.

I've predominately used Aimpoint, Eotech, and Trijicon ACOG's. Out of the three. I would have to go with the Eotech. Much faster target acquisition in my opinion. Also, I much prefer the overall "openness" of the sight picture. Allows better situational awareness. Too much "tunnel vision" with the other two. If it's for an SBR. I would highly suggest either one of the CCO's. SBR's are better suited for close quarters and no need for magnification. Just my 2 cents.

My plan is to go with Eotech on mine. Like stated above, the openness of the sight window allows for easier view of you surroundings other than just the target. I really like my ACOGs but seems harder to get a good sight with both eyes open, so you lose some of the ability to see around you.

Just my .02 . There are tons of great optics out there. Be sure to let us know what you end up with.

I love my TA44, 1.5 power acog. I shoot both eyes open no matter the magmification but the 44 lets you run it like a red dot and the small acogs have great eye relief.

On my AR pistol I run an ancient Trijicon reflex. Made in 96 and the tritium still glows

On another AR, after I get the mount, im going to be running a Trijicon TA21, a 1.25-4 power scope.

So...my vote is something Trijicon.

Have a Vortex viper pst 1-4 on a 15-22 and really like the scope but the reticle doesnt draw my eye well for a precision optic

I have an EOTech and really like it. But I do not have a magnifier. For magnification I would look at an acog or one of the Leupold tactical series for a more traditional style scope.

edit: also have an Aimpoint on a handgun that has worked great. But do not have one on a long gun.

I use the Leupold Patrol Firedot on my 5.56 it has 1x4 magnification with quick detach rings. I plan on using a aimpoint microdot on the 300BLK when it arrives.

I like a scope with a 1-4x magnification just because of its versatility. Burris and Leupold make a few good 1-4x's. I run both brands. I've wanted to try an eotech someday tho

I have an Acog. I love it.

I have a Leupold VXR Patrol 1.25-4. I love it.

I have an AIMpoint PRO. I love it.

I have 2 Vortex scopes. I love them.

I might get a fixed 6x for my two FALs.

Shot a buddies rifle that had the Aimpoint Pro. I was really impressed with it. May have to put one of those on my watch list as well.

It is a great optic. I had one on my work rifle and after a barricaded subject detail in the middle of the night, I sold about 10 to my coworkers for AimPoint.

I love my eotech too. I do have a few vortex of varying powers on my other ar's. I am thinking maybe one eotech and trying an aimpoint pro... just to switch it up. The model of eotech I have is the exps 3-2.

Love my Vortex Razor HD II 1-6x24!! The JM-1 verison (1moa setup for Jerry Micheluk) Is just simply perfect! On AR or the such.

Mine is on my Tavor and even though the trigger is lacking (awaiting a new Timney) it feels almost like it is begging me to hit my targets!

Both eyes open or long range perfection!

I hate you for showing me that thing. I was just talking about it today as I was sighting in my new Vortex Viper PST 1-4x24. So, far I like it.

I prefer the micro red dots, Aimpoints and Primary Arms clones. The PA clones are a great value and hold up well.

I have a Vortex Sparc that will be getting sold as soon as I find it's replacement. I never liked the thing.

You can't go wrong with an Aimpoint, or EoTech. The PRO is what I would look at against the XPS line between the two. You get a better field of vision with the EoTech, but a heck of a lot better battery life out of the Aimpoint. If you need magnification, you can just throw a 'flip to the side' mount on, and put on a magnifier. You need to look through each though and figure out which one you like. Both are strong as hell, and great rigs.
