New collector and I would welcome suggestions for protected storage for my young collection(only 3 at this time). Something more custom like I have for storing my watches.
TY,
Nick

What do you mean by "protected" storage?

I use cigar boxes. Keeps the dust off of them. When I travel, I put the few knives I take into benchmade bags, Case/Bose zippered pouches or the occasional sock :) It then gets packed in a old, but sound, suitcase.

Pelican cases are known to immediately attract the attention of thieves both professional and casual. We used to use them where I worked, but no longer for that reason. My uncle use to be a cop and his first rule of protection is to have things look like they are not worth breaking into.

For static storage check out the Akro Mills parts storage cabinets. They come in a lot of different configurations but have plastic drawers just the right size for most folders.

For travel storage, get a knife bag. I like the Kershaw/ZT style that Kershawguy sells. Spyderpacs are good and are cool because you can see the knives through the plastic, but they're frankly a pain in the butt to get in and out of. The Kershaw/ZT style protect your knives a little better in my opinion.

If you want to travel with a couple of knives, Maxpedition makes a wallet type carry pouch that can accommodate a couple of knives and a multi-tool.

For protection from damage or travel I would suggest a cheap plastic foam filled pistol case. Not real secure for theft though.

You mentioned storage (not airline travel): I will vehemently advise against long term storage of your knives in an airtight container like a Pelican -relief valve or not- (unless treated against corrosion (w fx Ren Wax) and with silica gel).

For airline travel Pelicans are awesome. I have a slew of them and just travelled transatlantic. Apart from the luggage goons trying to destroy any Pelican, they encounter (and always failing. Ive travelled thusly for yrs both as a government employee and as a civilian), the cases are excellent protection for the contents. I 'moor' my Spydies in there with an anchored steel rod through the Spydie holes and a gun lock through a hole at the other end of the steel rod.
