Orange Folder?

I don't think anyone has given the standard BF answer yet, "Buy both the Grip and Tyrade!" ;)

And an Orange OD-1 and Zing would be sweet "back-ups". :D

I've never had problems with any of my axis locks. Plus I feel its way more solid the a liner lock.

I have my axis lock stuck when it went out of alignment (if I hold if from both sides it work, but it is more complicated procedure then with other locks). It developed some play, especially on Grip, and when it is not oiled it has uncomfortable resistance to open and sometime stuck. Worse thing is that I have no idea how to fix it.

Also NIB it has blade touching handle in closed position, fortunately because this is just cheap plastic I just file out from inside that part of the handle, and because it is not solid, but like hollow inside, it was only edge ot the handle slab I had to file out. Blade is not centerd but at least I do not have it touching handle.

Again this is just cheapest possible knife with AXIS.

Thanks, Vassili.

FWIW: The Orange G-10 Tyrade is also a limited production run. There were 269 made.

Any more info on the orange OD-1 other than that posted above?

I received mine only a few days ago, but I'm sure it will give my FRN Enduras (both v3 & v4) a rest for a while.

You might try a Blade-Tech Pro Hunter Lite. They are pretty nice knives and very reasonable in price. There's one on Ebay right now for around 35 bucks with shipping included. They have a 3 1/2 inch PE blade. I have one of their smaller mouse knives and it's been a sturdy little folder. All of the ones mentioned above are good knives too.

And another important thing about Tyrade - Kershaw has phosorus bronze as washers, not teflon. This is alone huge advantage, and with CPM D2 composite blade and fiberglass G1 handle it left Griptilian way way behind. Honestly, this is just a different leagues, and thanks to Kershaw to make it for reasonable price.

Also it has Speed Safe.

So really you should be absolutely crazy about axis lock to choose cheap plastic handle and average steel on Grip over Tyrade. Personaly, I do not really like axis, it get stuck to often (even I am not using it too much) and require constant care - like oiling. It was hot deal 6 years ago, but now it is pretty old.

Thanks, Vassili.

Neither of my grips have teflon or nylatron. Both are equipped with bronze washers.

As far as sticking you must be rather hard on knives with a lot of pocket lint and debris or you got a fluke. Again both of mine are butter smooth, opening, closing, as well as the cross bar.

I have both a 551 ORG and a 551 BKODD2.

+1-liner locks are OK but I'm not crazy for kershaw recurves and hate AO. BM grip is very solid. I never had to do anything to my axis locks. Still the best lock other than a Ti frame lock.

You could wait a few weeks for the upcoming

It has an MSRP of $79.95. Internet and store prices should be a lot lower.

Wow - I never knew this one was in the works! Thanks for the info....Man I miss the Kershaw section of the forum!

I just disassemble my Griptilian - it does have bronze washers, sorry for wrong information.

But lock is bit stiff - I actually does not carry it too much. It has blade not centered and so I did not use it as not quite perfect. Most of the time it just stay in the box. Still when I open lock I hear pretty well scratching sound - like metal on metal.

Thanks, Vassili.

All makers have bad ones that get through QC. I highly doubt yours is typical, plus I've read "some" people having problems with their Kershaws, too. I had & have read & heard about the OD-1's rattle. A friend of mine has to send his G-10 tyrade in because the liner lock is failing.

So, let's set aside the very few times BM or Kershaw lets a bad one get through, OK?

All that aside, it depends on what you're looking for. You posted $80 at the high end, so that pretty much leaves out the Spydercos. I think for heavier duty use (& if you don't mind a heavy & lg. folder) the G-10 Tyrade's great. If you want to spend less, nothing's really wrong with the OD-1 & Zing (Although they're on the small size, but that depends on you). The Grips have been around & are proven. 154CM steel is certainly not a "low-end" steel, either. You can choose between the mini (About 4" closed) & the reg. Grip (About 4.5" closed). They're both fairly light for their given size & pricewise, are between the OD-1/Zing & G-10 Tyrades.

So, it's really what you want to spend.

Good luck with whatever you get.

Well, I did not here about Kershaw failures before, until you brought it up here. And I report this problem with axis while ago. All my BM have this - far from smooth lock movement. Sure not centred blade is just QA failure, but it just mean that this is not as perfect as many crying about here.

Anyway Tyrade way better then Grip - just different league, cheap thin plastich ws solid G1, CPM D2 ws 154CM. Again Grip only good if you want to have some axis, but otherwise Tyrade is way ahead.

Thanks, Vassili.

I'm looking to buy a folder with an orange handle, a blade length of 3-3.5 inches, and a strong lock. Any suggestions? Price around 40-80 dollars

For about $90.00 dollars, a Buck 110 with S30V and Fiji Orangewood scales....

I can't find the Orange OD-1 anywhere. Any leads?

The little orange handled Kershaw Zing is a great one!!! I've been carrying mine often lately.

OD-1 arrived today. (pictured with Harvest Orange Cadet)

I thought the action was a bit tight so I started adjusting the pivot. Well now its a bit easier but the blade isn't as centered as factory. I can get it more centered but too tight or easier to flip but blade slightly off center.

Moral of the story. Don't mess with the factory adjustment and just let it break in.

I was just about to check to see if it was delivered yet.
I apologize for the action being a little tight.
I try to personally check every knife that leaves from here before I package it up. I flip open so many every day they all start to feel tight.

If it does not loosen up after opening a few dozen times let me know.
I will make it right.
99% just isn't good enough for me.:D
