Orange G10 Handled RATS; Love em or hate em?

I've been the same way. I just feel too poser wearing a bunch of camo and mil gear. I've got the blue maxped and keep an RC3 sheath on the side...the orange with it looks hot. I'm tempted to grab one of the new red/yellow sar/ems jumbos.... mostly for the new grab handle it appears they have on them. I do wish they made the smaller maxped pouches in the new colors.

Diz, that is a really nice photo. I have never seen a Maxped bag in blue, I may have to switch color choice on my messenger bag!

I like the orange.

It's easy to find if you are in a hurry. Say like you are looking and reaching for the knife in your car you keep for cutting seat belts and such.

Or how about this - you require a sort of persuader which says "leave me alone" but local regs sorta frown on keeping a weapon handy. Orange knives, like pink knives, are not weapons. They are Emergency Tools in the eyes of most people. Cops included.

Plus, the orange just gives some eye-pop at times when you want it, like the pic above.

I have found that the linen micarta handles are no grippier than G10 after a while, and G10 does not have gas or other solvents run up into the fibers.

To be fair, nothing runs up into the fibers of the micarta handles either. They are saturated with epoxy, so only the very outermost layer soaks up anything and they clean up with soap and water. NOTHING is getting into these handles that doesn't eat through epoxy! :D

I do wish I had gone another route. I wish that every knife I have ever bought was in high vis "hunter" orange. Drop a knife with a green handle and a black blade into the grass at night to see what I mean.

I don't mind the orange color, I just prefer the feel of the canvas micarta on a fixed blade. If I want Hi-Vis I can always run a strip of yellow electrical tape around the scales.

I prefer the feel of canvas micarta, but the visibility of the orange g10 is top notch. On a big chopper type blade, where comfort is more important, I'm more likely to lean towards micarta, but on a smaller blade, g10 is just fine, easy to clean, grippy enough, and very visible if I drop my knife. I love me some orange g10.

I love mine, and I chose it for a practical reason that had nothing to do with its "look".
Easy to find if dropped or in a hurry, as has been mentioned, and since I wear it strapped to the outside of my pack, it's one more tiny splash of orange that might prevent some overzealous KY deerhunter from putting an arrow/bullet in my arse during those autumn months.

Finally saw a good pic of Max's new color bags! I was going to get Falcon bag from them in the blue for school before I settled on Mongo since my class load was lighter, but damn! Finally a nice pic!

Anyone in here from cali? Have a question, don't mean to thread jack but its a Q I have, if I am carrying a FB like my 3, can I have it at my waist or should I just conceal in bag? Or could I carry attached to bag? I usually don't leave a knife attached to bag, because I actually want it on me, never know if bag could get separated from me, and imo most important thing to have in any situation is a knife.

Any input?

The full text CA state Penal Code can be found online at:

http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/calaw.html

12020. (a) Any person in this state who does any of the following
is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year
or in the state prison:

(4) Carries concealed upon his or her person any dirk or dagger.
see (32)(e)(24) below, for definitions.

(24) As used in this section, a "dirk" or "dagger" means a knife
or other instrument with or without a handguard that is capable of
ready use as a stabbing weapon that may inflict great bodily injury
or death. A nonlocking folding knife, a folding knife that is not
prohibited by Section 653k, or a pocketknife is capable of ready use
as a stabbing weapon that may inflict great bodily injury or death
only if the blade of the knife is exposed and locked into position.

(24)(d) Knives carried in sheaths which are worn openly suspended from
the waist of the wearer are not concealed within the meaning of this
section.

So long as it is not concealed it is not a problem, according to STATE law. Local ordinances may be and likely are more restrictive.

another shot. It's not as bright in life as that photo looks. It's not as dull as this photo. slightly in between. I like it a lot.

Also, if you get the ccw holster for the carry pocket on the jumbo, an RC3 fits into it PERFECTLY. I usually now carry one there, and maybe a 4 or 6 on the outside.

I love G10 to begin with and I love the orange as well. I have an orange RC4 ! I think I need to order my first RC3 in orange now!

My friend says orange is cool

COOL LOOKING FRIEND. I just ordered an RC4 in orange, I'll let you all know how I like it when it arrives. I'm hoping to put it to serious use this summer with my Scout troop in North Ga, NC, Tn areas.
Thanks for all the input.

I agree, I lost my RC4 in the woods last years raking leaves. I didnt lock my blade into the sheath and it slipped out. I was lucky to find it, pacing back and forth I stepped on it. Now my RC 4 wears an orange paracord.

My wife was admiring my recently purchased RC-3MIL and was especially keen on how it fit her smaller grip. She tossed a silly question out there - too bad they don't come in orange." Boy was she surprised several days later when hers showed up! She loves it & now my case for the Junglas expenditure just improved that much more!

+1... I dont really like camo stuff.

I have the RC4 with linen micarta and really like it. My Rat Pack has the G10 in orange of course.

I really like the orange handles. Im not trying to show anyone how tough I am with mil style gear, so FOR ME, the orange is kind of cool. I also like the HI VISIBILITY!.

I like my orange RC-3. Like other posters have stated, orange has it's intended purposes.

I like it, but my wife did not. Since she was getting me an RC-4, I let her pick the color. I'm planning on putting a bright lanyard on it to make it more visible when I put it down

S.E.R.E. school taught us there are two places for keeping your gear, be it knife, compass, whatever - a) in it's assigned location for transporting it, with lanyard attached to your person, or b) being used at the time, with lanyard still attached to your person. You customize your lanyard however you wish, so that the tool doesn't get lost. This may mean having a longer length of paracord so that you can extend out to an arm's reach, or it may mean using a shorter "wrist style" lanyard while the tool is in use. More than one of my classmates came back from the woods without pieces of gear, due to not following the "care and use" rules established by our instructors. The importance of lanyards cannot be emphasized enough.

See, I did listen.:p

I DO like those orange scales, though!
