Here is the latest rendition of my firesteel knife. I'm working with another BF member to resell these and this is the prototype for inspection before we do a production run. Changes include a set screw in the firesteel cap to allow the end user to change the rod if it wears out. The set screw also locks into a notch in the handle to hold the rod secure. Just twist a 1/4 turn clockwise to release the rod, 1/4 turn counterclockwise to lock it in. Let me know what you think and any criticism is welcome!!!

Blade: Flat ground 1/8” O-1, hand sanded to 400 grit
Heat treated by Peters’ Heat Treat to RC 59-60
Handle: Orange G-10 with removable firesteel (ferrocerium rod)
Pins: Stainless Steel
OAL: 8 ½”
Blade (Cutting Edge) Length: 4”

Wow, that's a fantastic idea! Why didn't I think of that? :D Could you show some pics of how it secures into the handle? Just curious. How can I find out when this goes on sale? I want one! My son will want one too, though he doesn't know it yet. Hope they're ready for Christmas!

That's an ideal size for carrying around the trails. I think you've really hit on something here.

I'll try to post some pics this evening if I have any detail shots. Basically the firesteel assembly slides into the tube insert. There's a button head torx screw in the cap for easy rod replacement and when you fully insert the assembly and give it a 1/4 twist counter clockwise, the screw head locks into a divot in the tang. Friction keeps it from turning on it's own. I'll post the link in the for sale section when he gets them up on his site. I believe he is going to order 10 and offer them for pre-order soon with a 6 - 8 week delivery time. Plenty of time for Christmas!! Thanks for the good words!

Dave,

This is as good as I have...

Eric, I want to say that you and Marshall are a total class act. Thanks for all of the followup, from both of you.

Alas, I was only able to get one, for my son's Christmas gift. With any luck I'll place an order for my own sometime not too far down the line! :D

Thanks again, and good luck with this obviously winning knife design.

Many thanks to all. Dave, appreciate your feedback on our customer service. Hopefully the product will meet all of your expectations.
