Here is an Orange GW that I wet molded to the excellent Amoralleather sheath available at the Company Store.

It fits TIGHT!

I used Glad Press'n Seal to protect the knife but still got some bleed through on the blade somehow. A little Hoppes #9 and some Flitz took care of it easily.

I have included some photos of the GW with two Graham Brothers' Razels (excellent knives BTW) for sizing and sheath comparisons.

I for one, would like to have a pocket sheath ala' the Razels for the GW.

The photos are a tad fuzzy- I blame the camera since everybody else I live with is snowed in some place else... Has to be the camera...

Great job!

I'm sure LeatherHog could set you up with a pocket sheath for the OJ GW.

Great job !

I'd say more but I'm buggy right now. 4th time is the charm F'n firefox update keeps crashing :grumpy:

At least I'm sitting under a foot of new snow, gives me something to do

JJ-

I am in Parker- getting hammered here too.

I was supposed to be in Boulder this morning, if you consider way up Flagstaff near Gross Reservoir to be "Boulder."

For some reason, I decided to reschedule. ;)

Some of Boulder's finest  live up that way ;)

I live downtown, can't see Flagstaff, or the Flatirons, got the scanner on, nobodies getting up there. Or much of anywhere.

I loaded the bike into the truck yesterday just in case the weather guy was right for a change, I'm heading to Phoenix as soon as the weather breaks.

700 lbs of Harley really helps in deep snow :D

Are you gonna dip it in some melted bees wax?

I did the home version of a dip: Used some Sno-Seal and a hairdryer.

Then I finished it with some REI Ultra Seal waterproofing paste, which likely did little to nothing since it was already sealed with the wax.

I cook the same way- always have to add something extra to everything, which of course can only improve something, right???

Feel free to burst my bubble. :D

I live in Aurora and all I can see from here is all white and getting deeper by the hour. I'm glad I have no reason to go out in this stuff. White Christmas for sure..

NICE one!! :) I agree about the clip, and I'm pretty sure LeatherHog can make one that way if so requested...?? I know that I want a couple like that!

Locopelli, could you explain how you did this? How long did it take to dry/harden? How did you mold the leather to the GW, bind it, weight it, or what? How bad was the knife blade damaged? It looks awesome! I'd like to buy a scabbard and try it!

ive done a few as well, it is very simple. i ran hot water over the leather until it was pliable. wrap the knife in saran or similar plastic wrap, insert, and i used a sharpie marker cap to mold the sheath.

remove the knife and let dry, i let mine sit over night.

Yeah- what Morimotom said. Don't get it too wet. Use something smooth to work the shape. Wax when done. No binding or weighting required.

I worked the sheath several times over a period of a few hours as the sheath dried. I removed the knife after three hours. 24 hours should be plenty of time for drying, especially if you don't over wet it and use a fan to air dry it. Mine was dry overnight but I waited another six hours before waxing to be sure.

Simple.

There was no damage to the blade. Just a small stain from the leather that got there because I failed to wrap the knife properly. Came out with a little solvent no problem.

The wax seals the leather.

Remember it was molded with water. So if it gets wet, it will lose it's molded shape. Plus it would absorb/retain water and you don't want water next to the steel of course.

Waxing prevents this.

Makes sense! Tho I've never waxed a sheath before. Thanks for the info! Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!:D
