Orange GW with Wet Molded Sheath

I've used both of pictured products to condition the leather. I'm just shooting in the dark, though. I'm not sure which works best. Maybe Dewayne will pop in and tell us.

Hey Paddling Man! I use that same Atom wax on all my custom work, it gives a nice mellow shine and protects rather well without over soaking the leather. Ya gotta let it breathe.

I've never been an advocate of soaking leather in hot wax, makes it feel funny, kind of plasticy (is that a word?) The leather looks and feels un natural to me. Now, the sno seal, or Aussie Leather Conditioner applied with a hair dryer gives you a lot more control over how much goes into the leather, though its still easy to over do it. Both the Sno Seal and Aussie Conditioner contain leather softners so too much will over soften the leather.

If you want to seal it up use that Tan Kote, brush it on thin, read real Thin or the leather will look like it was dipped in plastic, not a good look either. Use this only on the outside and edges of the sheath, not inside. Tan Kote leaves a nice mellow finish if applied correctly. I use it occasionally when wax isnt appropriate. Be sure to lightly condition the leather beforehand and let it dry completely before adding the Tan Kote.

Never ever totally seal the leather with an acrylic or any other synthetic sealer. It will dry out and the sealer will eventually crack and look uuuugly.

Dont worry if your sheath gets wet after you have wet molded it, just set it aside and let it dry slowly either under a fan or just sitting on the counter. You can do any remolding while its drying. Dont try to hurry it with heat, that will only end in frustration and a very dried out sheath.

I'll try to add more tomorrow, Its near bedtime and I'm a little fuzzy in the brain. :o
