Hey all. Thought I would post this here as I know the Moras are favored as bush knives. I'm currently living in New Zealand and I was visiting a local hardware store the other day when I spotted a rack of knives identical to Mora Clippers. In fact the tag read "Mora -Carpenters knife". However, it appears to be sold under the name "Bahco" and is the same bright orange as all Bahco tools.

So I bought one (NZ$12). In all respects it appears to be a clipper. High quality stainless steel, really comfortable rubber grip, same sheath, shaving sharp edge. In fact the only difference I can see is that the Bahco trademark is stamped on the blade. I know that Bahco makes high quality tools and at $12, this is a steal. The company also has an interesting history.

Any thoughts? I'll try to take a picture of the one I have and post it later.

Where was it made? Are there any "made in ..." markings on it?

Believe it or not there are Chinese Clippers out there (on Ebay) that look exactly like the real thing.
Knockoffs of Mora's seems kinda silly to me as the real thing is already incredibly inexpensive.
I'm looking forward to your pics though!

Bahco has been known to contract with other companies to make tools under their name, so chances are that that is a real Mora just re-branded. Orange Mora's sound awesome.

:).

Hey all. Here are the pictures as promised. I have been handling and using Moras for a while now. If this is a knock-off, then it's a darn good one. I have yet to put it through it paces, but in all respects it looks and feels like a Mora. Anyway, the thing only cost me $12, so I'm not too worried. However I like it so much I may get another. There are no other marks aside from "Bahco" and "stainless steel" stamped cleanly onto the blade (blurred a bit in photo). See what you think.

cheers

To me, it does look like a Mora clipper. For that price what do you have to lose. Good find!

Thanks for the pics. The orange looks cool.
12$ NZ? That like 9$ Canadian!
Good score! you should go back to the store and stock up.

Thanks for the posting the pictures. I am more impressed with the can of IPA. Never seen an IPA in a can before. That is definitely a Clipper. The knife and sheath are identical to the ones that are stamped Frosts of Sweden.

Mora makes some of knives under other brands, and I am quite sure this one is a Mora for the following reasons.

- Bahco used to be a Sandvik company, up until 2000 when it was sold to Snap-on tools.
- The fish and hook is an old Sandvik logo that Bahco kept during the change.
- Sandvik have been supplying Mora with knife steel for about a hundred years, at least.

There is a long history there and I dont think Bahco would look for knock-offs anytime soon.

I think it's probably safe to say that this Bahco is a Mora.

Hey thanks so much to all that wrote in. Even though I'm far from home, Bladeforums is there! AustinTXShooter, the beer is Tui, a NZ brand. Pretty good! I just had the can and thought it went well with the knife! Now I'm off to the store for more knives!! Woo hoo!
