Orange Paramilitary 2 pre-order available!

Knifecenter is taking pre-orders for the Brown Para now.

Dang Rolf, where have you been???
That one has been up for a long time, but I did just notice they lowered the price $10. I still think they have it priced about $10 to high, so I'm holding off.

I know how much you like brown Rolf, so I'm glad they offered a Brown Para. You'll love it.
Good to see ya buddy!

Kenny!
I've been very busy! I drop by when I can. Thanks man and have a Great New Year!

Surprised this kind of died, no one else around BF buying this knife? Have they all been sold out? (Only bringing this up since the blue M390 Paramilitary 2 thread is still going strong).

Also wondering if/when we will know the shipping timetable, I know they said "expect in Spring" but Spring is a long time. :p

As pumped as I am for its arrival, I kind of hope it's the last day of Spring, since that gives me the most amount of time to avoid having my credit card punch me in the face (followed by my wife).

No kidding. With all these sprint runs (and some of the cool new sprint run ZTs), I'm having to tighten up the belt. Production models can be bought later, but I realized a long while back that if I wanted a sprint run Spydie, I'd better not wait.

Words to live by. I've missed out on so many great sprint runs while I bought a ton of $20-$60 knives that I was in a big hurry to try out. Those knives are still languishing on shelves while all the Spydies are long gone and commanding crazy prices. :(

Now if I have to, I'll sell production models to ensure I get the once-in-a-lifetime stuff.

Yes, me too. Especially those s90v ones.

This is exactly why I jumped on this even though I just bought a Digicam Para 2, satin blade 3 or 4 months ago. I have been so unsure about spending the money for sprint runs all while buying the less expensive production models. Fortunately this one wasn't too expensive so it made it very easy.

Yeppers, and even worse than real sprints are these dealer limited editions, which often pop out of the woodwork with even less notice than Spyderco factory sprints.

i have mine ordered, and im trying not to think about it, since its still at least a few months away.
people are receiving their blue para2 in the mails as we speak, so naturally theres more talk on those.
but considering theres already 6 pages of this thread, im sure those orange paras will be all gone soon.:)

I think with the price going up and the free shipping deal expired, the shock value isn't there now. That was a remarkably good deal if you got in before the new year. PS the price is set to go up next monday if anyone's on the fence.

That is good advice, I must fight the urge and not think about it. And that is right, people are now getting the blue para2's which makes sense.

That is very true, should have thought about that.
Wait 'till the spring and the orange beauties blossom!
Haha, I will or try to.

Well in your and other members similar case(s) of being threatened by credit card and/or spousal abuse I will hope that it is late Spring when your funds and spouse are ready.

I am really excited though, first sprint run/limited edition knife ever.

i look at it like this: the original price and shipping coupon was a gift, and even at the current price, it's still a good deal.

Never understood the hype around "orange knives", personally I´m more a British racing green type of person. Anyways happy new Spyderco year.

The orange is quite easy to find when (not if) you happen to drop it in an inconvenient area, such as in a pile of leaves, pine needles or long grass.:p

I am excited about trying the CTS-XHP. Here is what a posting quoting Mike Stewart of Bark River had to say about the XHP. Read this and can't wait for spring and the orange paras to ship!

"On Friday I shipped 30 of the XHP Woodlands that we made to see how this steel works with our Heat Treat and Geometry.
I'm pretty sure that you will be able to get one - if you act quickly - from either Dale or Derrick.
Let me tell you about what we learned.

Three of us tested the crap out of mine on Thursday and Friday.

I cut a bunch of wood and leather.

Skittles did the same for about an hour.

jimmy then also did the same and then batoned down two small trees out back for good measure.

Re-read above.

Note that no place did we say we re-touched the edge.

We didn't - I still have not and it still aggressively shaves hair and cleanly slices paper - just like it did when it was first finished.

I'm not sure what is going on with this stuff but I have never seen a more aggressive cutting stainless steel.

Here is what Carpenter Says:

Carpenter Technology Corporation has developed an alloy known as CTS-XHP, an air hardening, high carbon, high chromium, corrosion resistant alloy which can be described as either a high hardness Type 440C stainless steel or a corrosion resistant D2 tool steel. This steel is made using powder metallurgy and possesses corrosion resistance equivalent to Type 440C stainless but can attain a maximum hardness of 64 HRC which is approaching that of D2 tool steel. This alloy offers superior edge retention and surface finish, an ability to be machined to a fine edge, and consistent heat-treatability from lot to lot making it ideal material for knife blades.

I don't agree with them.

This Stuff is nothing like 440C and nothing like D-2.

It grinds easily and polished easily.

It appears tougher than D-2.

440C goes dead flat dull in cutting a fraction of the wood and leather we did so this is more like A-2.

If somebody asked me to put a tag on this stuff - it would be Stainless A-2."
