Order inquiry

So the options I am faced with now are:

1- Landing a GSO 5.1 on a factory 2nd Monday run (not holding my breath)

2- Buying on the secondary eBay market which means I'll either have to pay $350 for one which would hopefully be close enough to my desired options but not exactly what I would have wanted, or to pay a bit less and get the older pre 2015 models.

3- Ordering an RMD and to wait 4-14 weeks.

4- Just bear with what I have for now as they are good enough (TOPS BoB Fieldcraft, Fallkniven A1, Esee 4) till S!K changes its business model with the aid of adding more bladesmiths and also alternative source of capital infusion without giving the farm away (I'm just purely guessing on this front but they seem understaffed while GS is working around the clock to run a tight ship)

I have bought three GSO 5.1's now without preordering, and without paying secondary market prices. I bought the factory first during the presale in December. Took about three months to get that blade. I also bought two factory seconds on the last Monday sale. So I guess what I'm saying is, it can be done if you're diligent.

I'd suggest checking the 'production schedule' page of S!K's website every Monday morning to see if there will be anything for sale that day. Ellie will post the sale time, as it will be different every Monday, and if you continue to try for one I have no doubt you can purchase one this way.

Several regulars here have also purchased 5.1's off the production fixed blade exchange here on bladeforums. There was a 20CV version that remained unpurchased for at least a day, plenty of time if someone is checking regularly. I haven't checked back on that one, for all I know it might still be available???

Best of luck in your search.

I have also bought 3 x 5.1's after the pre-orders ended, and passed on a few more. It's definitely doable!

Thumbs up on those suggestions Mate, thank you.

I am slowly finding my way navigating through this site as I only joined about a week or two ago. I think as a mere registered user and with my posts being subject to moderation, I will have very little shot at snagging anything off the exchanges forum and even if I do, I won't be taken too seriously so an upgrade in my membership will probably make my presence more "real time" on BF. I may go for straight out alchemy and for $30 turn myself into gold :D

If you check the "heads up" thread you might find yourself a lead on a 5.1.... Also there is a Facebook fan page where some pop up

Thank you for your input. I have never had one but what has always held me back is the rough texture coating they put on their blades. As for aesthetics go if all else is on par in between the two, I still do prefer the GSO models.

As rough texture goes, the tanker gray is not too rough.
However, 5.1 has no coating, which, of course, is always better.

Anyone looking to buy, I would absolutely recommending going gold. If you want to anchor something down, there's nothing like an 'i'll take it' post followed by a private message to get 'er done. :) Also, it alleviates some sellers fears if you have low feedback because it shows you care to some degree about the site.

I wasn't sure how much you had been around the site, but I'll just hit a few more things that might make it easier for you. Like redwood said, check the 'heads up' thread in this forum located here.

The production fixed blade exchange is the usual area where GSOs will be sold, located here.

You might want to get ahold of Vernal2014 NOW. I would have sent that by PM if you were gold :D

I just paid my $30 by PP. When will I be getting my Lannister colors? :D

P.S. thank you all for helping this rookie navigating his way around

No problem man. When I went gold, I expected it to go 'poof you're gold' ha! Spark (site owner) takes care of this himself, and it took about a week for me to get my colors. I'd post a thread in Tech Support, it sometimes helps to hurry it along. Just state you paid for gold membership and post your paypal transaction number.

And also, welcome to the forum! :)

Thank you Hard Knocks. I will do that. Cheers.

Edit: it was actually simple. All I had to do was to go back to the Subscription tab and then manually change the User Group from the default setting of Registered User to Gold Member (wasn't this a movie?!), then sign out and sign back in. Voila! My new colors ;)

Hey very cool. Maybe I mixed that up with name change procedures, ha! Anyway, gold looks good on you

Doesn't gold look good on everyone though? ;)

S!K site shows some availability tomorrow for factory 2nd of the GSO 5.1 and SK4.7 with mystery steel tomorrow. I'll try to jump on that if I can so S!K gets the $ and I get the knife which I really want if I'm lucky enough to get into that rotation early enough.

Thanks for all the help bringing this rookie into the fold and up to spped

Our system is setup to charge when the order is placed. This is partially to help us invest in the production run. Mostly we charge up front so that we don't have to take time away from fulfilling orders to hunt people down to get payment later.

2019!?! I certainly hope not. I would like to see all of the preorders shipped out within 2016, though I can see where a few of the later ones may not make it out until early 2017.

We still have a lot of those preorders and pre-sale orders to get through. Though there are some Factory 2nds that we are running across in the process of fulfilling those so you will probably start to see those soon. And maybe the secret steel GSO-4.7.

Oops, I meant in 2018!. I'm sure we would all like to see all preorders shipped within 2016 or even in 2017, but based on what I've seen and am seeing so far I just don't see how this is even remotely possible. It has taken nearly a year between the last two models to be produced and shipped, that being the GSO 5 and the 5.1. Sorry---------just keepin it real!

Well that was a different circumstance. The GSO-5.1 production wasn't started until we had some feedback from the Starter campaign. That gap is because there was nothing in production for a period. Typically, there will be several models at the different production steps at any given moment. What about the gaps between the GSO-5.1 and GSO-4.7 and GSO-2.7? Check out the Production Schedule page, the GSO-4.1 blades will be done pretty soon as well.

Then you also have to remember that the GSO-5.1 production was a new way of doing things, which took some time to get figured out. All of the machines needed programed and new fixtures needed to be made. There are a lot of machines involved in the process and each one needs to be setup. The next batch of GSO-5.1s will go much quicker since that is all already done. Handles and sheaths will be able to be ordered ahead of time since they don't need to wait for templates to exist.

There is also something to be said about morale. Guy has felt pretty buried for the past few years. He had the idea for this finish in 2013 but the company had spent so much money on employees that year, we weren't able to invest in the equipment. That sort of thing can really mess with your mindset. Between the new production finally being a reality and the Monday sales, his attitude about coming to work has really improved. Instead of having to sharpen knives so people won't yell at him he is back to doing it because he wants to see them out in the world. A happy Guy is a more productive Guy.

Things are definitely picking up on all fronts!
