best results using the paper trick is to also torque the scales first.

here's what I do:
loosen, but don't disassemble.
loosen the pivot and all the body screws just enough so that there is play in the scales/liners.
hold the knife closed in your hand between your thumb and other fingers, looking at the blade spine from the top.
make the blade move away from the side that it's close to by trying to torque the scales in opposite directions.
once the blade has moved, keep the scales held tight in that position then slip the folded piece of paper or cardboard in between the blade and liner/scale.
tighten the screws from the end first, ending with the pivot.
