Even though another member so graciously decided to send me a Sharpmaker, I think I still want to get the Lansky to test how they stack up against each other. Plus, I think it'll be easier to sharpen recurves on the Lansky than it will be on the Sharpmaker.

I'd rather have a 0550, who cares if the skylines are LE, they're still just skylines..If they were a BFC Skyline I would.

The sharpmaker is really only for touch ups. You'd need a system like the lansky to fix(lack of a better term) the edge.

Sharpmaker isn't hard just takes practice with recurves. Just use the edges of the stones and bend your wrist throughout the stroke so the part of the blade being pulled across the stone is always perpendicular to the ground. So going into the curve you bend your wrist back and coming out you bend it forward. I kept my 0350 shaving hair for about 5 or 6 months on one sharpening once a week. It did take some practice that's for sure.

I really don't care for the sharp maker, inconsistent and too much room for human error. I have had two of them, and they do work, preference too date is lansky

Need some trade advice. My 550 for a red and blue skyline? Both are blade hq sprints nib
<br />
I'd do it. Both are limited editions and the 0550 isn't.

I was thinking the same. Limited skylines, 550 I can purchase anytime. Not sure I would hold onto the skylines.

That's what I planned to use the Sharpmaker for. I want to use the Lansky has my "main" sharpener if that makes sense, and if I have a knife that's still sharp, but not to my liking, then I'll whip out the Sharpmaker.

That sounds a lot more simpler than I had imagined it being. I think this was one of those situations where I was soaking in to much information and letting my mind go crazy with it.

The Sharpmaker is weird to use at first but you get the hang of it rather fast. I've had mine for about 4 or 5 years now. Still use it, too. I normally reprofile with the Edge Pro up to 2 or 3 thousand grit then add a tertiary bevel with the Sharpmaker at the 30 inclusive setting. I've tried a bunch of different methods and this is my favorite. You may want to look into the UF rods for the Sharpmaker if you want some finer edges. I've heard great things about them. Need to pick some up one of these days.

He decided not to buy KAI knives, because the mods locked warranty threads that had a pretty simple answer? I mean no disrespect, but I don't start a thread when I send in my knives for warranty, because usually THERE IS NO POINT. Only start a thread if they refuse to service you.

Seriously, what a joke. I bet he messed something up and doesn't want to send it in because his warranty will b void. Its tomfoolery

I essentially threw my blur tip first on the ground, and they fixed it. I'm pretty sure you need to do something EXTREMELY stupid, and abusive to void your Kershaw warranty. Granted my Blur is significantly shorter than my other blurs :D

The guy has issues I believe. Ignore him and move on. It will be funny to watch when his new favorite company fails in his eyes. People like him can't be satisfied...there's always something wrong.
