Trivia Time! Does anyone know how Ford came up with the name GT40?

...Jeopardy theme playing in the background...

Well, if memory serves, Henry Ford (II) was offered a deal with ferrari, he accepted, later on Ferrari backed out Henry ford was angry and over the course of a few years and with the help of a bunch of people (who's names I can't remember) the GT-40 was born, with Henry fords ultimate intention to beat Ferrari at Le Mans...all happening around 1964 right?
My memory is a little sketchy lol:p

Uhh......no. 1964 is when the Mustang came to be though.

Yes, grand touring, stands only 40" tall

Ding! We might have a winner. Based on the 1964 Lola MKVI, the ride height was different depending on the trim, race or street, and the suspension package used. The book by Ronnie Spain, "GT40", (and I hope I do not get sued for this) in Chapter 11, page 178/179 shows heights listed as: Original Prototype (40.5), MkI (40.5), MkIII (41), MkII (40.5), MkIIB (40.5), J-Car (38.5), and MkIV (38.6).

The trademark GT was taken, and according to laws at the time "40" could not be trademarked.

...and so the mystery still lives on to this day. But greenie is about as close as history shows us.

And a step further, in 2005 when Ford resurrected the gt, they could not name it the gt40, because it stood a still astonishing 44" tall. Really stunning to stand next to something that low and so powerful. History, much love

The GT40 has a storied history. The Mk1, 11 and 111 were designed and built in England. The MkIV was the only American built car to kick Ferrari's ass in the 24 Hours du Le Mans. In 1966, they finished 1, 2, and 3.

Well they said that on top gear, so that's not news to me.
I've seen 3gt's and 1gt40.

Did you know that on the 2005 and up models, the VIN numbers start with GT40?
