Ordered 562CF over Rubicon -- Brain vs Heart

Hey all,

After much deliberation I chose the 562CF over the Rubicon due to its use of higher grade blade steel, larger size, and perceived better value ($240 vs $280). This was a decision I made with my brain.

But I have to be honest, my gut yearns for the contoured carbon fiber of the Rubicon.

My question is: Do you guys think I made the right call? Buying both is out of the question, at least in the foreseeable future.

I think for general edc you made the right decision. For all the notes you listed.

Hard to say because with knives this close in materials and quality it comes down to personal preference. The Rubicon will be a better slicer because of the thinner, hollow ground blade. But it's quite a bit smaller and lighter.

The steels are close. Most people would probably give the edge to CTS-204P, but there is really not that much difference. Both are modern powder steels, and Spyderco has been heat treating S30V for a long time.

The Rubicon looks like a nice knife, but it's too small for me. And I don't know why it costs so much.

I also don't know why the ZT 0562 seems to be such a dud in the market, especially when it got such high billing in the many, many months between its announcement and actual sale. You could have purchased a used, LNIB for much less because of this factor.

I do like the ZT, but the blade geometry was a disappointment because it really isn't a slicer, despite the "slicer grind."

But it's still an awesome knife. I'd just enjoy it.

Logic vs Want is very hard to filter. I make my choice this way. Even if the choice seems logical and easy if I still feel that I am going to yearn for the the other I go with the other. I have tried to interject logic and reason into my knife hobby and I have learned the hard way that I am mostly motivated by want. Even when i know the logical and smart choice would be to carry a manual folder with a sub 3" blade I find myself grabbing the knife that gives me the most pleasure to use because that is what makes me happy. And enjoyment is really why I am in this. The moment I started just following my instincts and stopped overthinking purchases I have become much more satisfied. Even if a knife seems completely right for my situation if I dont enjoy it its only a matter of time before I punt it and am looking for the next one. One thing I can say though is that you may never know how much you might like the 0562 until in hand. So while it may not be love at first sight it very well might be that girl you never noticed but the more you get to know her the more you interested you become.

You bought the one you'll be likely to carry and use. The other one is just for looks, as you'd hate yourself if you scratched it.
Perfect choice, IMO.
