Ordered a BK4 *AND* BK12(Ritter/Becker RSK MK2) last night!

Take a BK2, stretch it about an inch, drop the point just a hair, and grind it down to 3/16... ha! :D

Don't have a real one, but here's a quick mockup I threw together for you, clich.

Ooooooo I like that look!

Yeah, I'm really liking this knife. It's very handy. Seems like a great all around size. I was comparing it to my ESEE 6 and while the placed are about the same length... I like the RSK more. It's fairly close, but the ESEE 6 just FEELS like the blade is a lot longer... like... not as maneuverable I guess. Hard to explain. I just the Becker grip design more. Perfect ergonomics.

I actually like the thumb ramp, so that's not an issue for me.

Kind of sucks that the RSK is so much more expensive than the regular line up... but I think it's totally worth it. I just wish it was more popular, as I think it's a fantastic design.

I was really jonesing for a BK16... but I don't know that i need it now. I realize that the 12 and 16 are miles apart from each other... and I still want the 16... I just think it's not on my OMFGMUSTBUYNEXTWEEK list. I'm really growing interested in the 5 and 15 though. :) This puts me around $500 in Becker knives last month.

Doesn't it seem like this is the biggest reason it isn't more popular? Before the shorts came out, this seems like a true "tweener". It fits rights between the larger, 7-9+ inch Beckers and the more common 3-4 inch fixed blades that everyone else makes. You pair this with a saw or small axe if you really need to process a lot of wood, or just roll with this as your large knife and you probably won't be all that bad off without something like a 9 or 4.

Get the micarta on it and like is going to turn into love. I thought I loved my 12 until I swapped the scales...

I just dont get the micarta love. I tried/used almost every model of Becker with micarta on them at Ethans. I didnt really see the ''wowza'' everyone talks about. I prefer the grivory, or at least I cant tell a 40 dollar difference. I honestly like wood scales the best.

Huh. Wonder why you requested micarta on the blade I made for you then?

The RSK is perty. I definitely wouldn't mind one of those.

I agree. Can't wait. Getting the micarta on the BK9 is what really turned me on to it. I was like 'oh, I'll give these a shot...kind of expensive though...'

Nope. Felt SO MUCH better in my hand, especially with the little lines I filed into them for traction. Got them on the 4 already and it's awesome. I can't wait to get these black ones for the 12 and see how they compare to the factory grips.

I would be very interested in checking out those fancy wood ones I just saw on that BK9 chopper thread. Those are amazing looking... but I definitely like that micarta is pretty much indestructible and easy to customize.

So I got the black micarta scales yesterday. Craftsmanship is great. One thing to note that is NOT explained in the description or on any of the reviews I've watched online is that the ergonimics are quite different than the factory scales or factory micarta. I tried these grips on the BK12 and was pretty turned off. I switched them over to the BK2 and they actually work pretty well, so I think I'll leave them on there. I thought maybe they were defective at first, but I contacted the seller and he confirmed that this is how they are designed. He also offered a refund if I would like to return them, but since they work fine for the .25" thick blade, I decided to keep them.

The difference is that the the top of the these grips along the spine, are very wide and flat, then they bevel over and come to a sharp point at the bottom of the grip... almost triangular. With the thinner blade on the BK12, I did not like the feel. Once I switched them over to the BK2, it seemed to actually work quite well, so I think I will keep them on that. I went ahead and ordered a set of the factory micarta for the BK12.

I'll get some photos up. The black micarta really looks awesome. More of a grey color being new, but I think it will look great once it gets broken in as well.

The black micarta really complements that finish on your 2.

Thanks. Yeah, I think it looks pretty good on this one. I started polishing the bevel today too. Not quite done, but I'm really liking the contrast it offers with the etching up on the spine. I'll finish it up tomorrow probably. I did it all by hand with 120/220/400/600 grit paper. There's still a few small spots where the etching needs to be polished out. then I'll probably take it up to 1000 grit polish. New found happiness with the 2 now that I've added these grips and getting that bevel polished. The sanding gave it a beautiful convex edge too! :)
