Ordered a bk7 and received a mossy oak knife in the ka-bar package.

Has anyone ever had this happen to them or heard of this happening. My wife ordered me a bk7 for our anniversary through Walmart.com. Well we picked it up today and brought it home, and when we opened the package instead of a bk7 inside there was a mossy oak knife. I've never seen anything like this before. The box is for a ka-bar Bk7, and even the paper sheath on the knife has the letters Bk7 on it. Is this
that has happened before?

Image is not showing, but that is lame for sure. Hopefully Walmart will accept the return. A mossy oak is not even close to a Ka-Bar BK&T. I have purchased several items from Walmart.com with no problems.

I am sure someone bought a BK-7, put the mossy Oak in the package and returned it for a full refund on the BK-7 while keeping that knife.
The good ole "switcharoo" scam....

The average Walmart employee will not know the difference, both when issuing a refund or when putting it back into stock and reselling it.

One great reason why I don't buy anything at Walmart including knives.....

That's exactly what I was thinking too.

I bought a circular saw from sears that was factory sealed and when I opened it it had an old used circular saw inside. They let me return it no problem.

Hope this all gets sorted out, good for your wife on having good tastes in knives. Enjoy your BK7 ... when you eventually get it.

I've had an incident like this, none knife related. I'm sure Walmart will replace it, if not maybe talk to Kabar or Ethan.

That's certainly a letdown. Like austexjg, I've ordered a few things through their website with no issues so far. Hopefully they'll straighten this out.

My cousin spent near $1k for a set of Wusthof kitchen knives for his sister as a birthday gift. When she opened it we found a brick in the box with some foam to keep it it in place.

The "big box" store replaced the knives and we all got a good laugh.

Back when I worked at Walmart (SHUDDER!!!) one of the service desk employees did a refund on a quart of used motor oil......in a clear bottle.

Definitely a return. Bought my son some kind of high end blender at Target. He opened it to find an old beat up blender.....thing had to be 30 years old. Target had a problem with it until I told them I just wanted the right blender. They thought I wanted to return it for a refund. The old bait and switch is alive and well!

Most items on walmart.com have the option of being picked up at a local Walmart. For higher dollar items, I have it sent to the same Walmart that I get groceries. When the item comes in, I open the package AT WALMART in front of the pick-up clerk so that I have witness.

This saved me a bunch of hassle the time I got a used electric grill.

WM's free ship to the store option is great. Yes to opening the package at the store and taking a look. I however have purchased closed boxes (you know, something that hasn't been handled inside the store), not opening the box myself before buying, and it is always possible to not get what you are expecting.

The switch-a-roo thing is possible. But the $15 price tag should give you some sort of warning that it might not be what you are expecting. Print out a copy of the actual knife you thought you were buying at WM (their website) and take it with you when you return it. Assuming it really is supposed to be a BK-7, I would just ask them to re-submit it for purchase and wait for the new knife.

Oh, I also open things purchased "off the shelf" when they have clear tape sealing them shut, just simply because that tape "could" have been put on by a 3rd party, not the manufacturer. I will only take a tape sealed box if it is the only one available. If there are taped and non-taped versions on the shelf, I NEVER select the taped box. If ONLY tape sealed versions are available, they ALWAYS get opened before checking out.
