Ordered a Northfield 'Courthouse Whittler'

The swedges do make the blades look thinner than they really are, since the flat of the spine which draws your eye is only about half the actual thickness of the blade. That said, the blades are a lot thinner than those on a Queen stockman, for example. I've done a lot of hard cutting with blades even thinner than the GEC, but I've been using them most of my life and I'm used to them.

Hi folks -

Oh boy - here we go - I really like that pattern / scale material combo...

Thanks for the pictures and discussion - I really enjoyed reading this one.

best regards -

I actually like the thin blades. For me though, I prefer a knife without swedges to whittle. A full flat grind with a flat spine is what I like. It will not cut into your thumb as much. I like to whittle hard seasoned wood though so its just my preference.

I have a Northfield whittler but have yet to use it. The main blade sharing both springs is what draws me to whittler patterns :)

It's a work of art, no doubt about it. Everytime I take it out of it's little tube to fondle it I can't help but marvel at the fit and finish. I got a Queen Stockman that I've been toting around lately that I really like. The factory edge was a joke, but I got that fixed on the Edge Pro so it's good to go now. Not quite the knife that the GEC is, but it's still something to be pround of. That Bone Tidioute posted above is a thing of beauty too.

That is an awesome looking knife. I have a Boker stockman that has thin blades; it's a smaller one with 1095 blades. I've had it for something like fifteen years and the thinness of the blades hasn't caused an issue yet. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. If you decide to sell it I doubt it'll take long to find a buyer. I know I'd consider it.

I just shot this with my cell phone. They really are impressive little knives.

Beautiful knife, Kevin! That's a pretty impressive cell phone pic, too. (Heck, I can't get that nice a pic with a regular camera). ;)
