Ordered A Pheer! questions on the motor capabilities

I finally ordered a Pheer327 Grinder last week. It will have a flat platen. The motor is a Baldor 3450 1hp 1ph, and will be single speed.I know almost nothing about motors, and was wanting to know if in the future I could connect a vfd to it or not? As I said, I know nothing about this, and couldn't find the answer anywhere so...

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated, thanks
Jack

Since it is single phase you cannot use a vfd. 3 phase motor is needed for vfd function. You would be able to get multiple speeds with step pulley.

If remotely doable, I'd step up to a 3phase and a vfd. The pheer's direct drive, so switching over to a step pulley is more than a tiny change and with 1hp and a pulley you'd notice the power loss. I'd also suggest having the top wheel on your platen changed out for a contact wheel not just an idler. I spend at least as much time on my 2" top wheel as I do on the platen, so I'm glad I got a rubber contact wheel instead of the aluminum.

While id love to do this, I am completely out of money, and I still need to buy some belts and steel. Although I cant do it now, I will definitely be upgrading in the future. For future references, will any 3ph motor work? Or does it need to be made for use with a vfd?

Ok,so to have vfd capabilities the motor needs to be a three phase... Does the vfd make it not three phase?!? I don't here anything about people having to get three phase into their shop/workarea, but I may just not be seeing/noticing that. Do you have to have three phase capabilities in your shop to use the variable speed?

The VFD is what makes your power 3 phase.

The ones we mostly use convert single phase to 3 phase, and vary the frequency, which varies the motor RPM.

There are also VFD's for 3p - 3p, but most of us do NOT have 3p power to begin with.
